Got a great idea and/or proposal for BloodBowl?

Stadium capacity and home advantage.

Post by miguel77 »

I have been sorted through some old 2nd Edition stuff and there are quite alot of references to stadiums and there capacities. I was just wondering on a rule to recreate this and also add a home field advantage. This has not been play tested but I would appreciate any feed back.

Each team can have a home stadium at the start of play. The capacity of the stadium is the teams starting FF * 10. At the start of each game as roll the gate as follows. Home teams FF + Half visiting teams FF. This is modified by +1 if the away team has a TR of 20 higher or -1 if it's 20 lower.
If the gate is at least 50% of the capacity then the home team get a bonus reroll for the game. If it is under 50% then the home team gets dejected playing in front of empty seats and has -1 RR per half.

The is just an idea of the top of my head and I think it would need some way to improve capacity later on in the season.

Its a good concept, i think it needs some more fleshing out however.
Is the starting capacity set forever, can you then move stadiums as your team gets better?

The problem occurs in an open league when everyone wants to play at thier stadium, maybe if you had a good league where everyone turns up to play you could have a fixture and designate home and away games.

We once trialed home games during the finals for teams that finished higher in the standings, where the home field advantage was an extra re roll. Just another thought

Hi Folks !
When we started our last season we had some comparable ideas:
1. Away Team's FF counts half
2. Home Team gets a +2 bonus on the income roll after the game

Unfortunately we changed the season-shedule and were no longer able to design a double round (home and away game against every other team) and therefor cancelled these ideas. Therefore I haven't made any experience with these rules yet.

Cheers
Stefan

According to the fluff of the open league system, teams rarely even have dedicated homes, (since the league collapsed and teams went bankrupt)but run around the country playing matches when the price is right. To represent this, there would be no "home" team as such, but it would be cool having a little more suport if a dwarf team was playing elves in dwarf country for instance. I just dont think their should always be a home side - think int'l soccer friendlies being played in neutral countries (ie. chaos vs. undead in Ulthuan, humans vs. dwarfs in the dark lands, etc.)

There are some fairly complex, and tedious stadium design rules out there on the web. Most of which greatly benefit those teams (Undead, Dwarves, etc) who are usually cash rich later in the careers, to the detriment of other less fortunate teams. If you want to build a minutely detailed stadium then I would suggest you might rather be playing Sim City or some such game.

I have found some simple and elegant rules (not my own) at the following website
http://home16.inet.tele.dk/cobra/bloodbowl.htm
http://home16.inet.tele.dk/cobra/bloodbowl/stadium.htm (direct to stadium rules)

They are the creation of one Benny Moeller and full credit to him. NB they were maybe better suited to the cash rich 3rd Ed (cards, different winnings table, etc). However, if you are interested in Stadiums they seem very good. They allow a place for cash other then just sitting idly in treasury running up TR.

The best part is that it is simple, and give small bonuses without needing to invest too much time/money into building and without game shattering results.

Anyway check them out and see what you think. I must add the caveat that I have yet to actually run these myself but it will definitely be these if I do add Stadiums at all.

Compendium 1 has the rules for using stadiums. You can check out the rules on Galak's website under GW published BB articles.
