Concepts are incredible. Shame to have to wait so long to see some sculpts! Great work jbone, definitely in for a team of these guys.

Re: New Slann miniatures project?
I agree on both parts. I've never been a fan of tall, slender frog-humans (we've got the lizardmen already), and the sketches make the players look like a race of frogs, instead of face swaps. Longer legs might be good to justify all those leap skills, but it might also lead to fragile minis, which I'm not too fond of. The concept art looks great, and while I've never considered playing the Slann, if the team comes up looking as good as the art, I guess I'm buying a team.Norse wrote:actually no, I think the short neck/broad head look makes them look much less like frog faced humans and more like another race altogether (of amphibian origin clearly)
I might like to see longer legs though - ones that actually scream "Leap" just by looking. Might be foreshortening in the drawing to an extent, but the legs look shortish.:

It's funny you should ask! Now that the big rush for the World Cup etc is over I can give you some more updates!sydo wrote:Any updates on this project?
Meet the newest member of the team... The CATCHER

Also, Pedro is currently working on concept art for the big guy which I will share with you when it is ready!

Re: New Slann miniatures project?
there is insufficient difference between the lineman and the catcher IMHO. He doesn't scream AG4 or Catch to me. He looks great as another lino, but I think the catcher (the real star of the team on most Slann teams I have seen) needs more, sorry...

Re: New Slann miniatures project?
It may not come across well enough in that one sketch but the catchers are to be more like the tree frog style than the linemen so there will be a distinct visual difference in the face and body as well as the differences to the uniform (only one shoulder-pad, no padded undershirt, shorts instead of loincloth, towel on belt etc.)
This has all been discussed with Pedro and I'm confident that his vision will work. Especially once the poses are modelled. Please bear in mind that these concept sketches don't yet show how dynamic the different positional poses will be.

Re: New Slann miniatures project?
sure, having done this kind of stuff before myself
I know that sometimes sketches are not indicative of the final sculpt - both in a good way and a bad way sadly. I trust Pedro's sculpting ability implicitly. I noticed the subtle difference in the armor - maybe I could put in a polite request for the Catchers to have bigger hands than the Linos??
I'll still buy the minis.
I have the original RJ frogs which I love the concept behind. I just wish they hadn't been cast in such cheap-ass metal. Most of my catchers are no longer attached to their feet..

Re: New Slann miniatures project?
That is one concern that I have tried to deal with from the very start... I have found a very reputable caster and am trying not to have the frogs be too slender.
The hands will be different on these as almost exclusively the linos will have closed fists while the catchers will have open hands showing the webbing on their big hands. I am sure it will be surprising how easy they will be to identify. It is very much part of the scope that I have discussed with Pedro and I am confident in his work.

Re: New Slann miniatures project?
I'm not sure I like the look of the head in this concept art but I do like the rest of what I see. I am liking the tree frog style idea with larger webbed hands (hopefully he will be sculpted slimmer than the linos and blitzers while still being sturdy and strong enough not to suffer from easily snapped legs/ankles. I think the addition of larger webbed hands, if done right, would help give the impression of more slender arms compared to his Slannmates). Like pretty much everyone else commenting on this I will still be buying this team when it's available. In God (aka J_Bone and Ramos) we trust!J_Bone wrote:It may not come across well enough in that one sketch but the catchers are to be more like the tree frog style than the linemen so there will be a distinct visual difference in the face and body as well as the differences to the uniform (only one shoulder-pad, no padded undershirt, shorts instead of loincloth, towel on belt etc.)
