Well David, as for an idea I mentioned this:Dr. Von Richten wrote:One thing I would like to see next time(s) is the team result having a bigger impact on the overall score, so instead of getting just 1 or 1/2 point extra for a win or draw, make that a bigger number, or even the only number; 3 points for a team win, 1 point for a team draw, 0 points for a team loss, with individual results as tiebreakers.
Btw. I can't claim credit for this concept, I got it from Draco, which proves that even that old git sometimes has a good idea!
Team win 3 points, a draw 1 point and a loss 0 points. But! A big win of 5.5-2.5 or more gains an extra point. This will hopefully make it more fun to go that extra yard to win your game instead of settling for a draw because the team will win anyway. But this is a discussion that should be held elsewhere.
I allready gave my feedback to the organizers. They did a great job, espicially if you know what they faced in preparation. The live stream of some matches was great. The fact that you got an answer to everything was great too. I can tell you now that I would not like to have been in their shoes. It takes strong personalities to pull this of. So well done!
And Haktar, keeping a strict schedule is very important in a tournament, mainly on the last day. Not just that the hotel wants everything at a certain timeschedule (personel only will work until certain ours youknow), but also players who have to leave on sunday and still have a drive of more than 3 hours up to 10 or 11 hours, would prefer to leave asap. As Portugal is hosting the Eurobowl in 2017, you'd better take that in consideration. I should never end like a Rendez Vouz I still have in mind (even though that was a blast too). So back on giving a complement to the organisation, that point was well met too. And keeping up timetables even scares the shit out of ex NAF presidents!
Also great was the shuttle service to the parking lot and back. The car was recognizable with the yellow logo of the tournament. Great little idea!
But there were some minors too:
On friday the registering at the hotel was a bit chaotic. Bart tried his best but doing the hotel key part alone made it look like him swimming in the ocean. For Bart it wasn't a pleasant experience either, I can promise you. Suggestion for the next organizers: Make sure you have the roomnummers of the hotel together with all the other stuff in one package. That means early communication with the hotel that you need the roomlist in advance so you can organize that before the guests arrive.
On saturday the software let us down. Not only that, also the pointsystem for Europen was not mentioned in the booklet. I even didn't know that system until I asked the organizers. It was funny to see Arioso come at the table asking how it was possible that after 3 rounds the top seed team had 27 points, where as accoording to the ruleset (Eurobowl rules) they could have a maximum of 12 points. For me, the same system as Eurobowl would have been as good as well, with the individual results a tiebreaker. Main thing here, communication. Although I also have to admit, not many people seemed to care about the points at all, only about the beer!
As for the software, I think it had to do with adding reserves and switching pairings (the team names were not always in the right order when we got back the filled in leaflets) to make it more easy to get the results right. After we stopped that and reset the entire thing all went great and smooth until the end. Great work from Sjapie to simply announce the start of round 2 first and then worry about handling the software. This might have been avoided if the score software would have been used to it's full potential, using the inbuilt option for printing match sheets. Not sure why that was not done.
Even though the hotel was great, one minor thing was the first course. It was on the table too soon and that is not hygenic. This is BTW not a fault of the organisation itself.
For the rest, great work done. And I'm very curious to see the endresult of your book of organising a damn good Eurobowl and Europen!
And now of to the World Cup in Lucca. I'm really excited about that allready!
