I guess the woman who participated in designing these models will disagree ;)

If you judge a good natured discussion about the issue of the objectification of women to be of no more value than the entertainment it provides, you are I think, part of the problem.

If someone judges the production of a sexually explicit female 30mm fantasy football team as the objectification of women, they are, I think, part of the problem and crying wolf when there is none.

This team is, to my eyes, no more objectifying to women than Thrud the Barbarian is to men. (And it should here be duly noted that I myself am more of a David Spade type, bodywise.) We are talking caricature, not political statements. Nothing to get your knickers in a bunch over. Pun intended.

But, if people prefer to show their young daughters miniatures with chainsaws and ripped-off limbs rather than nude women with tails – by all means, suit yourself. I couldn't care less which of them my 5 year old daughter saw. I'd just laugh with her, either way, and tell her it was a silly 30mm fantasy figure for a silly board game, her dad enjoys playing. (-And then tell her to get back to the kitchen, where she belongs! )

Each and every example when considered in isolation can be shrugged or laughed off. It's the aggregation of countless examples which adds up to the problem. This attitude to women is a dominant force in western culture, so of course people will attempt to normalize it and defend it.

As much as we might like there to be some sort of parity between female and male objectification, experience does not support that assertion. Neither do rape statistics. It isn't a level playing field and in my opinion men need to step up to the plate and do more. Even if that amounts to something as ridiculous as criticising toy soldiers.

But there's no point arguing about it. I've yet to see anyone change their mind in a forum argument. We'll just end up restating our positions in increasingly histrionic terms until one of us gets bored or one of us gets banned.

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

For every 1 half naked toy soldier depicting the idealised form of a woman there are 1000's of half naked toy soldiers depicting the idealised form of a male. How many male gamers must hold back their rage at the sexist representation of say a norse team?

Anyone who would be so incensed to eject someone from a tournament for using these toy soldiers, or feels the need to leave the hobby because they exist is either massively over sensitive or loves an excuse to have drama.

But hey thats the interwebz I guess.

Good point, there's a world of difference between the idealised male form and eroticism.

I wonder what the reaction would be to a Touko Laaksonen themed Norse team?

No. A BloodBowl version of theHawkeye Initiative would be awesome.
