I reckon it's a southern hemisphere thing, due to all the blood rushing to their heads, as Smeborg does the same thing.

I don't think variants are popular enough to have their own ranking, but also conversely not popular enough to be taken out of the rankings!

There is a certain amount of scepticism about the rankings system anyway, with a few prominent members saying that they are somewhat silly (which is fine). If someone could explain why they are not necessarily a good measure of "coaching ability", that would be quite helpful, and it might assuage some concerns about having a couple of variant games in there (drowned out by the vast majority of vanilla).

This, from someone who is top of the world Elfball rankings :)

A couple of people (elyoukey, colin, maybe others) have posted about duplicate threads. I'm actually fairly relaxed about this, as I think the different forums have different audiences. It's just a free choice, no probs. IMO.

I would like the idea of a variants ranking. Then the Fling-Fest and Stunty Slam etc could get in on the NAF. :smoking:

I would just like to mention about posting on one forum and not another:
I do a lot of my forum lurking and posting at work. TFF is not blocked. NAF (and my own grr...) are blocked. Hence I post here :)

I can't remember if this was discussed elsewhere, but personally I think the NAF and TFF should come to arrangement whereby TFF is made the NAF forums. There may be very good reasons not to do this, but I certainly can't think of them right at this moment.
From page 8 or so! I'm going back through and summarising all the good ideas for my reference and hopefully action. The good reason is that the NAF site is tagged as "games", whereas TFF isn't. As an official organising body for a game, we want to be tagged as "games" for various internetty reasons, whereas TFF can afford not to be because it is a forum only, that people can find if they want to. So as I said before, probably best for them to continue in parallel (IMO), but if people do care about the NAF forums being used, use them! (virtuous circle of recognition and growth, as I once wrote in an essay about trade unions).

Constructive thought borne of painting an example: drop the dice and make commemorative coins... and/or metal footballs.... Maybe even make the footballs of iron based metals for those who use base magnets (no idea on costs :-? ) and the coins could be used as markers/reroll counters... could also show consecutive years of membership.... Would make an interesting collection....

Currently I am painting my Blood Bowl 2006 coin (cannot remember how I got it) that I use as a combo blitz and reroll reminder.... On the "face" side I am painting the R part of the B to symbolize still having a reroll available this turn, and painting the whole B on the other side for "blitz".... In practice, you take the coin from the center sideline at the start of your turn (of from your opponents side); turn the coin over to "tails" when you reroll and move the coin back to the center sideline spot when you blitz....

Just an example of how such a trinket is useful....

I'd much prefer a coin over the dice (but Block dice would probably trump both). A metal NAF ball would be pretty cool, and surely wouldn't cost too much to make either. You could sculpt the year on the ball each time.

Make a wizard reminder. I can't tell you how many times I've taken a wizard and forgotten to use him at critical points in the game (hint: every time). Preferably it'd shout at me at the start and end of each of my turns "YOU'VE GOT A WIZARD, YOU FOOL!"

After forgetting I had a wizard cost me a win against a guy who I've never beaten in a regular BB game (I remembered about 30mins after the game on the train ride home :( ), for my next league game I wrote 'REMEMBER YOU HAVE A WIZARD!!!' in large block letters about half a dozen times on my team roster! :D

Thankfully I did remember to use the Wizard in that game.

Use a wizard mini as your turn marker in those games, easy.

The NAF made 3 metal balls in the past. Not sure when (or why) they stopped. I think there are pics on Trav's site.
