Good ol' Australia tax!
However, in this case, I think it was more that the Aussie dollar was only worth about $0.70 USD, so it roughly worked out as even on that sort of conversion. However the dollar has improved since then.

I've posted it on the thread about the fumbbl dice: What would you guys think about start producing and giving dice like those with the NAF membership? Is that possible? Another IP? Someone might feel offended?

I’m not sure how good the FUMBBL dice would look without the different coloured inlays.Manuel wrote:I've posted it on the thread about the fumbbl dice: What would you guys think about start producing and giving dice like those with the NAF membership? One thing I’ve noticed from having custom dice made is that designs look very different in the “flesh” than they do on the computer. Mostly this is because the design is cut into the face. You could of course get them printed on but I have never been a fan of those.
I’d prefer to see a unique set of NAF block dice created.

Printed dice are much more expensive, anyway. A lot of that is in start-up costs, though, so maybe the volume would even it out. It seems to have worked out for the Aussie dice. The NAF could do a lot worse than choosing Virral as their dice czar, really.
But yeah, I know what you mean about designs coming out grainy. It can be a very frustrating thing.
I think you can mitigate that to some extent if you understand the process and choose the right manufacturer, though.

I think the FUMBBL dice would still look great in a single colour inlay. You could make some really nice colour combinations of dice and pip. Here is straight up white on black:spubbbba wrote:I’m not sure how good the FUMBBL dice would look without the different coloured inlays.Manuel wrote:I've posted it on the thread about the fumbbl dice: What would you guys think about start producing and giving dice like those with the NAF membership? For quality, if the NAF were to do this and commit to it for a few years run I would suggest getting a mould made. I can't remember the numbers exactly, but the point where it starts becoming much cheaper to go with a mould versus etched is about 1500-2000 dice. After the first year it would significantly reduce production costs and moulded are much nicer than etched.
I also posted some of my thoughts in the FUMBBL block dice thread.

Hi
I obviously produce block dice to a fairly simple design in standard colours as below with the matching sets of d16, d8 and d6. I have looked at having them made by mould and the cost is a lot and although possible is a big expense. I will continue to produce the block dice albeit in small numbers with an extra colour each year as well as other 'special' designs Military, Australian, Spanish and ... tbc plus my injury dice and tokens etc although not to everyone's taste they are engraved and filled rather than printed for longevity

Or maybe not:Darkson wrote:It's the logo from the first World Cup.
Part of the "process"?Deathwing Jan 2012 wrote:Moving on: The current 'official' logo. This is in the process of changing to the 'WC' logo, mainly to avoid IP issues with regards to the spiked ball. (Similar to the domain name change that took place). So already in process.

If that's the reason, it sure makes sense.
A step forward in this entire 'IP situation', I suppose.

Oooo.... I like the injury dice, never seen those before. I'd like to see NAF block dice or to see NAF pieces parts, like weather dice, injury dice, templates, dugouts, etc. Figures would be ok, but would probably need to be support staff or counters so that they are usable by everyone.

Re: 2013 NAF Dice Announcement on thenaf.net
Yeah, they're mine. I had them made to take with me to the NAFC with the idea of giving them to my opponents and then (typically!
) like everyone else I heard two days before that we would be getting official NAF d6. I therefore, chose not to follow my original plan and didn't haul them over from Germany. Having seen the new dice didn't use the NAF Logo I found I could of carried on with my original plan
Now I'm left with the dice and thought maybe other people might like them.

To be honest, I like those dice a lot more than the actual NAF dice.

Those do look good. One of the sets matches the colours I used for my Bunker Bowl dice - I may well have to put a bid in on those...

If I had any cash, I'd bid.
