I have to say that as much as I love collecting the block dice, I'm only not using my plain whites this year because of a pretty nasty chip. Shaniepoo and I have been back and forth a little about this. Personally what made the NAFC special for me was the sheer volume of participants, getting everybody together in one place that you don't necessarily meet at every tournament due to regional factors. Some nice D6 this year will tide me over though I'm on board with the idea of looking into the possibility of a new block dice design for next year.

I'm not a fan of tournament miniatures because they're such a subjective thing. Personally purely display miniatures are meaningless, and a mini for actual use has to be a.) for a team I actually play and b.) a sculpt that doesn't repulse me. Dice, boards etc. are far, far more useful in my opinion.

I can honestly say despite the setbacks I'm more excited about this NAFC than any previous years. I think the fact many of us will be staying in the same location is also going to give the weekend more atmosphere in the evenings. Bring it on!!

I do so like that some people are blaming the NAF for what GW has said 'no' to.
Righteous indignation FTW.

Personally, I always assumed 'NAF' stood for 'Not American Football'.

If a name change is needed then 'Fantasy Not American Rules Football' wins out. And then we can take over the world.

Why? Is it because you only saw value in paying for the new coloured Block dice? Or are you angry at the NAF for what has happened? Some other reason?

I'm interested in knowing what prompted this reaction. Personally I think I'll probably renew this year, purely as a show of support for the NAF. Depending on what they do next year, I may or may not renew.

I fully expect to see renewals drop sharply though now that they aren't giving out 'official' Block dice. The Block dice had some exclusivity to them. There aren't too many tournaments that have made fully customised Block dice.

Custom d6's, on the other hand, are very common. Even d6's with the NAF logo don't hold that same level of exclusivity and uniqueness for me. A lot of tournaments do them (including the one that I run). They're nice, but don't have the same draw as Block dice.

Brain got the night out, maybe next time he will got for block dice.

At least that is how I read most of the complains, if GW stopped caring and the NAF is alone, then really go alone. On the other hand, maybe the current solution is about playing safe and seeing how things evolve. Also a full year to get a design that will last, instead of rushing the production, would be pretty logical.

Who is blaming the NAF? I must have missed those posts.

Personally I don't think the NAF is to blame. I'm sure they did all they could to avoid this situation.

That said, I would have thought it wise to have pics of the d6's and d8/d16 done and ready to go when the announcement was made. Seeing the pics of the custom d6's may have helped to 'ease the pain' of those upset at seeing the block dice no longer being made.

Wylder above. If that's not what he meant, it still sounds like it.

I don't interpret that as assigning blame. I interpret that as him saying that NAF's value, to him, is entirely in the dice. He won't be alone in that sentiment. I do think, good or bad, NAF will see a sharp drop in membership, particularly in areas that don't have a lot of tournaments in close proximity to each other (read as "nearly everywhere that isn't Europe").

Yeah, I wasn't sure, hence why I asked him.

I also expect to see NAF renewals decline quite a bit, especially as once you're registered once, all your games are recorded, even if your membership expires.

Yes, you can't post on the forums, but a lot of people sign up to the NAF solely because of the block dice. So losing access to a forum they don't post on is not a massive deal for them.

Count me as one who renewed only for the dice. Up until earlier this year we'd had exactly 1 NAF tournament in my area in 2+ years so the value was 100% dice in my case.

Why do I get the sinking feeling we're going to get a new Blood Bowl that makes all our stuff obsolete. 40mm Figures? d8 game? A pitch that's two squares longer or 1 square wider? Oh well, I'll just stick with what I got granny!

This could be some kind of stroke of genius on GW's part. I can just imagine the meeting. "Take away the block dice and they crumble". Seriously is that what it takes to bring us down? I can't actually believe how much importance some people are putting on those dice. Last year the dice were almost unusable and I still signed up. Now I like collecting them as much as the next guy and yeah I even enjoy the annual question of "what colour will they be??"- it was a nice little extra spice ontop of the NAFC. But I would not be at all suprised if the NAF D6 this year turn out to be a one-year-only stop gap and a few years down the line become a coveted rarity.

This is a tough time. I just think it would be better if people stuck together and got behind the NAF as they try and navigate this difficult period. Cultivate a positive atmosphere instead of moaning about things that are out of our hands and we're all just as dissapointed about. Tell those pencil pushers down at City Hall that no, we will not be broken!!

Personally, I hope this actually strengthens the NAF (FAFF  ) by finally breaking away from Granny.
I wait to see.
