Discuss Fantasy football-style board games - GW's Blood Bowl, Impact!'s Elfball, Privateer Press' Grind, Heresy's Deathball, etc. THIS IS NOT AN NFL FANTASY FOOTBALL SITE!
A forum for football mini's talk.......painting, converting etc. etc. or showing off great accessories that make playing the game easier, cooler or more fun.

I think it's possibly easy for English speakers like myself to forget that there's folks reading whose first language isn't English. We use slang terms etc without really thinking about it.
But anyway, back to the mini. Still loving it.
So...insulting is allowed as long as you put a smiley at the end of the message?
We all knew he was joking, but some jokes just aren't necessary...
OK, so in the cool light of morning let me try to crystalize my thoughts with no mention of nationality whatsoever...
A mini designer presumably puts minis out there for one or both of two reasons:
1) they want to make cool minis
2) they want to make some money
this is a bit of an assumption on my part, but I think we can all agree a mini designer does not want to put out crap or lose money, right?
so, I also assume that mini designer wants their minis to be extremely popular around the world - the cooler they are, the more they sell, the more they sell, the more money you make (or the less loss you have to suffer as is more often the case in the industry)
so, the mini designer posts pics of their minis on a very popular global forum (I think TFF is about the biggest BB forum in the world, another assumption though) - the majority of feedback is positive, some very positive, some customers (yes, I buy minis too) question the originality of certain work however. Over time this mini designer puts out lots of minis - 80% excellent original concepts, maybe around 20% less original - you can call them an homage, a pastiche, a copy, based upon or anything you like, I'll say less original.
the majority of customers and potential customers from outside your own cultural and linguistic group question if this is appropriate. is it right so put out less original work 20% of the time when the other 80% is so incredibly well executed. some people question the legality of this - the response is to be told that your laws do not apply to them. Even when there is a huge outcry over the Thrud mini, it gets released anyway with a shrug of the shoulders. some people question the morals of doing so - never mind the law, is it "right" to do it.. the response is to be accused of racism, or told you are boring..
I'm not quite sure therefore why images of the minis are being posted any more. Is feedback welcome, or do you just want ooohs and aaaaahs? I find this especially ironic with a computer animated sculpt (for lack of a better description) because I assume that it is not a lot of work to change something like that? it's not as if we have to ask a sculptor to cut off bits of green stuff and start over, right?
so, do you want to sell minis outside your own group? presumably yes? do you take their comments onboard when you show off new stuff - absolutely not. do you think you might need to rethink your market approach somewhat here??
"Hope you like the mini guys, if you don't, I don't want to know cause I ain't changing it anyway!"

you may me laught so much!! thanks!! Now I understand why Bob Surgey (my ex workmate at GW) used to call me the spanish inquisition with that accent!! lots of lol.... I almost urinate by laughting at watching the video at least of this crap is worth a big laugh!
I liked that "morning speech". And I love Monty Python (yeah, they're great) and I hate Spanish Inquisition. But...
One thing is saying "I don't like that mini". I'm pretty sure Willy will accept that. And I'm pretty sure he will even thank you if he's given some explanations about why that mini is not cool, since that will help him to improve that mini or other minis he will make in the future.
Another different thing is saying "That mini is not legal". You can see the difference, right?
In Norse's defense, he did admit about 4 pages ago that he wasn't commenting from a legal stand point. The comment he did make about it was, I'm sure, intended to be tongue in cheek.
Norse wrote:Burgun, believe it or not I'm not coming from a legal perspective - I don't know shit about IP law, so I can't talk about it. My indignation is fuelled by the muses:
You've just had a HUGELY successful kickstarter campaign for a new Chaos team. The beastmen are incredible, the warriors and stars are great too. You are at the peak of your creativity, your juices are flowing, the fanboys are moist with anticipation and then...
GW rip off (and the original mini isn't very good in any case!)
It's like 1979 Queen releasing a cover version of a Beatles song...
I don't necessarily believe this absolves him in the event that he's offended anyone (which it seems as though he has) but I'm not someone that was offended so I can't really judge.
at no point have I cried foul over legality - I don't know enough about it. I have mourned the lack of originality from someone who has proven themselves to be capable of so much more...
a few pages back someone (I now cannot find the post) raised the issue of IP and someone else responded with "the laws are different in our country" which I must admit I find to be a very annoying response. It reminds me of why Garry Glitter lives in Thailand.
So, in summary -
I don't care about the legality of IP (though I do dislike the argument that because laws are different then right and wrong are somehow different as well, but that's not relevant to this discussion)
I do care about the originality of work
I don't care about minis for any other games (because BB is the only game I play)
I do like Spain
I do not like the Spanish Inquisition..

If you're just saying that the mini lacks originality, everything clear now.
It's up to everybody to individually decide now what's more important: originality or releasing the master tribute to an old discontinued mini. I do value originality, but I do value master tributes, too. So it's a hard choice for me, I must admit...
