Re: The Spiky club Open 2010, 9th/10th Ocober 2010 Reading,
ok.. the wording sucks
it does not matter what skills the player had before he selects skills.
the issue is that they may not purchase the same set of skills as another player that has purchased skills.
so yes you can take one zombie with block, and still have your wights, but you cant take another zombie with just block.
the current pack says..
When selecting your team you may buy existing star players, or create your own stars for your team. To do this you will need to either pay the price for the star player you want from the list in the living rulebook or buy your players skills. At +20,000 per new skill.
You may only purchase skills that may normally be taken by that player type (with a new skill roll) and you may not take the same combination of skills on more than one player.(for example: Two players with block and dodge) this only applies to star players. You may only create experienced and veteran players (up to two skills per player). The amount of skilled players you can buy depends on the team you are using...
a clearer way of saying it would possibly be.

Re: The Spiky club Open 2010, 9th/10th Ocober 2010 Reading,
No, because that means you can't purchase a player with Guard+Block and Guard+Stand Firm, which is contrary to what you previously stated was your intention.
Clearer would be:

I think any wording of the rule will work if it has the words "purchase" and "combination".

I disagree. Combination implies "more than one" and hence seems to miss out duplicating the same individual skill.

I think Joe's effort above seems to capture the intention's behind the skill choices.

Re: The Spiky club Open 2010, 9th/10th Ocober 2010 Reading,
Just back from vegas and read through the comments on here and just had a look at some rosters and noticed the following.
We normally get 1.1m to make a team with and then get 6 skills (one each on 6 different players).
Now really we get that and then an extra 100k to get 5 skills with which we then get every game rather than one per game. Except now you can't just pick the same skill on more than one player so have to either pick less useful stuff, or use those 5 skills to combo up perhaps 3 players instead. Some teams have this forced on them already by only being allowed to skill up 3 players. Amazons are likely to want to do that anyway so aren't hampered by it.
The other alternative is to spend less than the 1.1m on the team in order to free more money up to get more skills.
An example Chaos team:
1 Mino 10 Beastmen 3 rerolls 30k left over. Can afford to give 6 players 2 skills each.
Juggernaut Claw
Block Guard
Block Sure Hands
Wrestle, Tackle
Block Tackle
Block Extra Arms
Could perhaps look at changing the last two to just having one with Guard and one with Block, giving you 40k back to spend which lets you afford another Beastman to have 12 players.
Woodelves are perhaps looking at 2 skilled up wardancers, though rather than giving them both two skills they may look to save the money to get another player.
My reactions were these rules suck, to actually they are quite good, back to zomg they are awful to these could work out to be quite good.

Re: The Spiky club Open 2010, 9th/10th Ocober 2010 Reading,
As you all know, I am rather opinionated.
The last 2 Spiky's have been bad, probably the worst in the calendar year for 2008/2009.
I think Ace (Dave I think isn't it?) has made a controvertial ruleset, that much is pretty obvious, but I love it. It makes a big difference to me that this tournament will be soo unique. One standard that I have seen at every tournament I've ever been to is that you may only give one skill to each player (with the exception of random skills, e.g. troll bowl, brassman).
I have a suspicion (May be wrong) that Joe is so involved in commenting on the ruleset as he is the "unofficial" UK Championship organiser, and this is a UK championship tournament. Plus, he knows BB inside out and is a walking encyclopedia of stats and different skill combos etc.
For this though, I would leave the rules as they are in the last post Dave, they are unique, not to everyone's taste, but I think you'll see increased numbers this year- I will certainly be going.
With a bit of slating mate, I just wanna say well done on the rules (that's my 1 compliment of the year gone you bunch of munts)

Were you there last year Leon, I don't remember being insulted by you at any point if you were. You don't appear to have played any matches at last year's according to the NAF site either ;]
Now this does fall on my mate's 30th birthday (10th oct) but I hope to see you there.

No, I wasn't, but I've gauged the quality from other regulars that went.
I'm sure with Dave back in charge it'll get back to it's old legendary status.

Re: The Spiky club Open 2010, 9th/10th Ocober 2010 Reading,
So, am I right in saying that if I were to take Goblins I could:
Hire 2 Stars (fungus and nobbla)
and
Make 4 Stars (mix my own skills)
but not

And if I skill some one, I dont have to hire an 'official star' e.g. nobbla blackwart?
