I'd take block. Maybe boring, but it still the best imho.Mr_lemon wrote:My Beast finally reached his first skill and before I was thinking Stand Firm, but I rolled 5+5 so what should I take now? Block (to make him more aggressive and harder to knock down), Pro (To make him a more reliable mover) or Dodge (to make him hard to knock down and really mobile when he reach another improvement and can get Break Tackle)? I don't think neither MA+1 or AV+1 is worth it...

Mr_lemon, I recommend you take a doubles pick, and suggest that you have a choice between 2 main directions:Mr_lemon wrote:My Beast finally reached his first skill and before I was thinking Stand Firm, but I rolled 5+5 so what should I take now? (a) Take Pro, to be followed by Break Tackle.
(b) Take Block, to be followed by Stand Firm.
The first route makes a more active and mobile Beast (Pro helps keep his Tentacles alive, and helps with dodging and going-for-it). The second route makes for a more passive Beast (he becomes difficult to knock down or push away). Both routes have merit. (a) tends to be better against agility teams, while (b) tends to be better against strength teams. I have tried both routes and am inclined to prefer (a), while recognising that there are matches and situations where (b) works better. While most coaches on this forum seem to prefer Block, I am not alone in preferring Pro.
Hope that helps.

I don't think your "unexpected breakout passing play" idea is far fetched, as I've had similar (lack of) results with tight caging. However, I usually run the ball in forming a loose cage of Pestigors and Rotters while the Warriors & Beast tie opponents up. So I have only passed for a scoring opportunity on a few occasions.Da Shin Kikas wrote:I have found that against most teams I've played (they've played six games now - one win and two more brutal draws) the 'funeral march' cage tends to get bogged down just outside my own half. To combat this an unexpected breakout passing play has been developed.
However, for future catching potential the team took Extra Arms before Sure Hands. The Extra Arms Pestigor began as the primary ball carrier, and now that the other Pestigors are skilling up (including Sure Hands) the Extra Arms Pestigor can function either as a catcher, or at the very least someone to hand the ball off to with consistent results (using the mobile Pestigor cage).
The fact that you have a Rotter with the Pass Skill is a boon to your plan

Did I say three? I meant five. Might have been drunk. Scored two more tonight anyhow, so that's seven. I've begun to suspect that a prior lack of strong caging teams in the league has allowed me to get a leg up due to the other coaches' inexperience. I played a wood elf team tonight and had a blast with Tentacles; can't wait for the Beast to come into more XP and pick up Break Tackle.mattgslater wrote:Huh? How does that work? If you've played three games and won them all, you'd need to have at least three more TDs than the other guy, unless as many games as the difference (in this case all of them) went scoreless in OT and you won the "shootout" for each. Given that I've played thousands of games and watched thousands more, and I've only seen two scoreless OT periods....Wanchor wrote:... I've scored a whopping three touchdowns already, to my surprise, and given up three. All games have been wins....
As for skill #2 on the Mighty Blow Pestigor, I can't decide between Block, Frenzy or Juggernaut. As concerning blitzes, Block and Juggernaut obviate each other, naturally, but I'm torn between getting some Frenzy and chasing the classic Can Opener Dream. Giving him Piling On at this stage feels premature somehow. Thoughts?

"I don't think your "unexpected breakout passing play" idea is far fetched..."
And yet it's been pretty much 'unexpected' by the opposing coach when i've used it, leading to a scramble of dodging from his players as they try to get hands on my reciver.
My intended 'catching/pass blocking' Pestigor skilled up after my last game (a harsh 2-1 loss - how I hate the 'Blitz' Kick Off result) ; the cry of anything but a 10 or a double went up, and lo, a double 5. Life became complicated and I eventually settled on Catch.
Rolled for winnings " Two or better I cried ". A '1'.
The air turned blue. Mr Hanky will have to wait yet another match before he can squelch onto the pitch.

Catch? Not Dodge or Side Step? Don't take Catch, man; you don't need a receiver that badly. You can take Extra Arms on a normal roll, anyway.

You think so?
Actually 'Dodge' deffiantly has legs (Haven't played a match since I've skilled up so I could change it...), as the Pestigor in question has block too, and that would help him in numerous ways.
Hmmmmmm.
Side Step has always been a skill I'm ambivanlent about. Put it on a couple of Human catchers as it keeps them sliperry but for a Pest? No sure.
Thanks man.

Re: Looking for good Nurgle resources/advice
Side Step is a skill for protecting/expanding the cage on offense or manning the wide zones on defense. Coupled with Block and ideally Two Heads, it's pretty effective, especially given how good the Warriors and Beast are at holding the enemy out at the inside position; put a SS guy (or a Dodge/Stand Firm guy, but that's more skills) on one wing, and most speed teams will be forced to take the one remaining route, so you know which safety to play deep and where to put your hunter as opposed to your kicker.
Dodge for raw power, though; this team lacks for blocking skills. The only reason I'd consider Side Step is that just a little Dodge is very dependent on not running into too much Tackle. SS if you face a bunch of agility teams (meaning a little Tackle will be ubiquitous, and SS will be max value anyway) or if you face a bunch of Dwarfs. Dodge otherwise.
As for having a dedicated handler; if you do this, give him Extra Arms. You can give it to two and use both skills in the same drive, picking up with one and handing off or QP'ing to another (depending on the phase of the game). I'm running an XA Rotter just to build a comp rotation and eventually get him KOR, but I'm not at all convinced I'd do it again or recommend it, at least until you have a Wrestle Rotter or two, a Kicker and maybe a Dirty Player, making this guy a late-bloomer at best. Maybe if I had a Rotter go over 10 when he advanced... then I could see giving him an accelerant skill.

Dear Wise and Venerable Moderators -
Now that the brains of Da Shin Kikas and other coaches have gained the skills: Pro, Decay, may I humbly suggest that it would be a good time to close this lovely thread?
I think this thread is now the best Nurgle resource available on the net, so I hope it may be placed where it is easy to access. A big thank you to all TFF contributors who have created this masterwork.
All the best.

I'm pretty much inclined to agree. This is the best resource for Nurgle there is in my opinion.

Re: Looking for good Nurgle resources/advice
Really. It's already 26 pages long and seems to be slowing down. EDIT: I don't think there's any point in closing it. Closing threads is for when the material gets offensive, or if the thread is detracting from the forum as a whole. If we just leave it alone, it will fall off the first page in a week or so, and people will leave it alone when everything hass been said.
I think there should be a subforum for classic/epic threads that aren't broad enough in topic to merit a sticky (like this one). Sticky up a means or set of criteria for submission to this subforum, so that instead of letting people post new threads there, let mods post here if a thread is nominated and meets the criteria (make the criteria as objective as possible, so the subjective element is mostly resolved in the nominating process; inclusiveness is good for everybody. That way, we can keep hammering away on the big/popular topics for years without crowding the forum in an effort to avoid threadomancy, and also new coaches can read the big stuff that's come up in the past.

Re: Looking for good Nurgle resources/advice
I don't understand why the thread needs to be closed as that implies that there is no other worthwhile advice that can be given about Nurgle
I do like the idea of having it kept somewhere handy were people can always access it and add to it if they want to share info on the success of their new ball hawking Pestigor build for example.
