given who it was between I assumed it was good natured. I doubt Ian had much to do with "the shove"

I questioned it in my head though.....

I was just trying to be a little light hearted. Apologies if it didn't come across that way. No offence meant.

A little late but no less sincere; I'd just like to add my thanks to what Tom has done over the past years to make the game great.

In a *completely* unrelated note I played my firs game of Elfball last night and it's great.

If anyone tires of the game Tom made great, I'd highly recommend the game Tom (and one or two others in a lesser way) made.

Thanks Tom, you will continue to have my support in your future endeavours.

Thanks Tomba!

I find these days since I have small kids I use the optional rules for the 2 player movement, stars counting as 2 successes, and the quicker face-off. Really makes the game run much quicker. But I've been happy to hear from folks that prefer to play the game without the optional rules. I really tried to design the game to appease different folks depending on what type of experience they were looking for.

Unlike GW ... I'm okay if you want to use GW figures to play my game. :D Heck we even allowed folks to use ANY fantasy football figures to represent their team at our last tournament we held at GenCon. Impact! will never lose its gaming first soul like GW has ... I think that is a major part of our mission statement.

I've been thinking about picking up Elfball. How long does a game of Elfball run on average?

Tom, thanks for making a decent game brilliant. You're guilty of me wasting a lot of time on this game. :D

And I thank you for that !!

Once you get the feel for the game and if you use the 3 optional rules I mentioned above ... about an hour to 75 minutes.

Since you play until someone scores ... if you are looking for a timed game your best bet is the Elfball card deck (which we are temporarily out of stock of ... getting more printed). At the beginning of each turn you take a card, some have bonuses and some do nothing. Once the card deck is done ... the game is done (so you can either play to first score or agree to play until the deck runs out). The person with the most do nothing cards in case of a tie wins.

Easy way to do this with a 52 card deck is this:
Number cards = Nothing happens
All 4 Jacks = +1 Jog to a player of your choice this turn
All 4 Queens = +1 Skill to a player of your choice this turn
All 4 Kings = +1 Tackle to a player of your choice this turn
All 4 Aces = +3 Momentum to your team for this turn
If you have Jokers (54 card deck) and want to use them than have the 2 Jokers = +1 to any one player attritube for this turn

This is not the same as the Elfball card deck as it has a lot of other fun things in it for effects ... but it will serve in a pinch very easily.

So for your first game ... I'd use a deck of cards like mentioned above ... and the other optional rules as well ... the game should run pretty quickly despite needing to learn the number of successes to do things. As you get used to the rules you can decide which if any of the optional rules you want to no longer use ... but the optional rules are there to make sure your first game doesn't take 3 hours to play as you get used to it.

Thanks for the information Galak. I don't mind the game taking longer when I'm still getting used to it and I like the idea of the card to give it a set time limit. I'll have to give it a go.

Glad to see the turn of this thread to Elfball. Our loca group has embraced it whole heartedly. We like the way it plays and the fact that its not a complete ygoigo game, but that the players activate in alternating phases. Like Tom, we are also using the two player activation in the dungeon, but still using single player activation on the standard Elfball pitch.

Great game.

Late to the party as usual I guess.

A huge thank you TOM! I feel privileged to have met you and Jervis at the Chaos Cup years ago.
I am going to celebrate your freedom by soon placing a good ol fat order from Impact!

Cheers and prosperous times for you!

One thing that really bothers me (don't worry, there are more):
What was the point of kicking Galak off the BBRC?
I mean, the BBRC is supposed to be disbanding!
It is purely a symbolic gesture - so they pick the one that says "We're heartless bastards".
That could just as well have crowned him "king of the BBRC" - the net result would have been exactly the same, (except for the spitting on the fanbase and the rub-off on their souls).

I believe a resounding Duck-em is in order :D

These are the rules suggested in the back of the rulebook? Yes, we played with these, and the game went really well.

I am slightly concerned that the 'feel' of the game will change when we move from stars being worth two to one (surely folks will just fail more?) but I should probably start a new thread for such a topic.

At some point I would also like to know what the design brief was, but again, for another thread in another forum.

FWIW we used no minis- just the card ones in the box, and I bought the card minis for all the teams!

I will be ordering some nice metal models form you soon though!

Thanks again for the great game.
