He's got a lot of Frank'n'Stein's up for buy it now currently

I asked if these were originals or recasted models - the reply was
I got them in a job lot of BB figures about 4 months ago, some were still in blister : )
I've had an offer accepted for a couple of these for my Necro team, so guess I'll wait to see what I get

Why didn't he leave them in the blister, then? I've seen original blisters going for quite alot.

Anyway, I've realised recently as I've finally come to getting my entire collection someway half sorted that I've come into a whole bundle of recasts. In fact, I think my 18 man 2nd Ed Chaos Dwarfs team are all recasts. Really bad ones. If you were going to recast a mini, wouldn't you at least trim the original mould line off first before making the mold?

For what it's worth, I recently bought a Squat miniature off this seller, in excellent condition and completely unpainted, which did have what appeared to me to be the telltale double mold lines of a recast job.

I sat down the other day and organised my figures too. There are definitely some that could be recasts, but it's kind of hard to tell. I'll decide what to do when they're painted. If they look crap, it'll be back to ebay and jokers like this guy for me

The model I ordered from this guy arrived yesterday, I've stuck it next to a GW flesh golem which arrived from GW the same day for comparison...

The metal is definately not 'new' looking...

Spiky;

in his defence, would you really expect the metal to look new on an OOP model when compared with a brand spanking new golem from GW?

i'll admit, i bought several minatures from Trolltrader at the start of the year & TBH, can't remember which ones, as i went mad between Jan & Feb!

However, as an earlier poster intimated, he does buy up items cheaply...

I'm 90% sure that i was in direct competition with him on several large GW lots (20-50 models) & these finally went relatively cheaply...

Within 48 hours I did see the items i was bidding on relisted, with exact same paint jobs (probably used other listers photo!) for up to quadruple the price on BIN.

It only takes a couple of in-experienced bidders to pay £20 for an OOP model he paid £4 for & he's got his months shop fees paid for!

Can't comment on the re-casting, but the 'odd' model could easily be slipped into the mix...

One plus point is, that if push comes to shove he will accept 'sensible' Best Offers, although he always tries to negotiate up!

The Frank'n'stein doesn't look especially suspicious. The greyer metal would be in line with the fact that the older Blood Bowl figures were cast in a lead alloy.

Double mould lines aren't always an indicator of a recast either. If the master cast wasn't cleaned thoroughly (as is sometimes the case) then you get double mould lines (one from the master stage and one from production).

I remember getting the old Legion of the Damned figures from Mail Order on pre-release years ago and some of them had triple mould lines. And they were certainly legit.

Hi,

Agree with your posts - the point I was trying to make was that if this was a recast I would have expected it to be more shiny :D

I'm happy with the models I got from the trade, I'd probably consider using him again too...

Cheers

recasts

Post by tiamo69 »

just going through my recent BB purchases (well jan 09!) & definitely have got at least one recast!

not sure who i bought it off but my BB Dwarf Bombardier is definitely an inferior mould - heavier than other similarly sized BB models, mould lines & feels very grainy, compared to the genuine GW BB Models.

will have to dig around my old paypal payments & see if i can identify the suspect!

I can say with out a doubt that he does not re cast.
I know this as he lives down the road from me, runs Newquay gaming. The amount of crap he has that he's bought off ebay and 2nd hand is amazing. The back of his shop and at least 1 gaming table are full of stuff he's sorting out. Ive helped him sort though some of the boxs and found a number of hidden gems that the seller didn't know he had sold him.

He's got a small squat force that he had pro painted on display. I keep saying he should use it as a Guard army at a 40K GT for a laugh.
The number of OOP Bloodbowl models that turn up in fantasy armies and in a lot just listed as random BloodBowl figures is silly.
As for dodgy looking photos, given the production line for taking photos he has, the odd one will happen and he only takes one of each item, bags it and puts it away. Given that he takes over 200 photos a day and tries to list 200 items per day, he just does not have the time to dig items out to take extra photos. He has one person employed just to box things up for mailing out and his other member of staff is off work with a bad back.

He makes more from his ebay than he does from the store, even though he's one of the best selling GW indipendant retailers in the South West. Though GW still want him to close his ebay store and won't let him sell any specialist games stuff till he does.

Well, I'll take back my earlier comments (much earlier - in the summer!). Out of curiosity, where in Newquay is the shop and does he sell the old BB figures there? I won't be back in Cornwall for about a year, but will try to check it out when I am.
