Re-get the ref

Post by Thadrin »

A problem we encountered in my game monday night (only just remembered topost it here...)

Opening kick off - get the Ref. Roll: a tie - we both get the ref (and I'd rolled "Grudge match" as my handicap :) )
I drive and score in four with my patented counter play.
Kick off - Get the ref.

Now, we played that one team had decided to persuade the ref that maybe the other team weren't so scarey etc after all, rolling new GTR rolls (I lost :( damn 1 and 6 rule on FF...).

Were we right? the rulebook doesn't say as far as a quick scan goes...
should we have ignored the result?

Just interested in what other people would do as much as anything.

(note of interest...start of second half - my full dwarf team kicking to 6 orcs, and Ogre and a goblin: Riot! "screw that, its boring" says my opponent. I agree. Reroll. Pitch Invasion...and I win the roll...)

I'd say that by the rules the Ref stays got, regardless of later Get the Ref results.

It does say that the ref is got for the remainder of the half, so I would say that no penalities would be called till the whistle.

That said, I do like how you and your opponent played it. Aside from the weather never changing... I like that the kickoff table constantly changes the game.

Except when your opponent gets the "blitz" result all three times he kicks to you, in an important league game...

I think of it like this

First ref killed by both teams, therefore the seconde ref is scared of both teams = NO PENALTIES AT ALL

Second ref then killed by team 1, therefore the third ref is scared of team 1 more as they have now killed two refs compared too the one killed by team 2 = NO PENALTIES AGAINST TEAM 1, TEAM 2 SENT OFF AS NORMAL.

Just my opinion.

After thinking it over, I would say both teams get the advantage. The fluff about the ref etc. is just to describe some mechanics, and that being able to foul without penalty. Although there could be some speculations about him being scared both by the death of the predecessor of his predecessor and his predecessor, the mechanics is importnant.

And what if one team gets Get the Ref twice, and then the opposing team? Does that mean he already is twice as scared of the first team?
No, this wouldn't work, IMHO.

IMO referees are stupid creatures and have short memories, therefore only remember the last kill

I agree with Ian..both teams get the ref.

Thads,

What's with the 1 and 6 rule on FF at kick offs? - the 1 and 6 rule only works on the game end FF roll.

I seem to remember that only the last get the ref counts so only 1 team get him.
The reason is that it say "his replacement is so intimidated that for the rest of the half he will not award penalties against the team whose fans got his predecessor"
So when the first ref gets killed by both teams fans his replacement will be afraid of both team, but when he gets killed by only one teams fans the third ref who is the new replacement will only be afraid of the fans who got his predecessor and not both.

My team is stuck on a FF of 7 thanks to that damn rule...so my chance of winning Coaching or fans rolls are minimal at best...
