2022 Team England ANNOUNCED

Post by PeteW »

Firstly, thank you to the committee for giving me a third chance to be the captain of Team England for EuroBowl 2022. It is a great honour, and quite the responsibility, given the success of the team in previous years.

As the committee announced, the team is going to repicked, as some people may have changed availability, or have either played a lot (unlikely) or not played much during lockdown. Also, the new rules introduce a slight change of game which will require some experience.

At the moment, the charter requires:
Team England Charter wrote:6. The English Eurobowl Team
In order to be picked for the English Eurobowl Team, coaches must be English NAF members who have played at least 25 non-variant tabletop NAF games in the year-long qualifying period prior to selection.

The qualifying period is May 1st to April 30th in the 12 months prior to the team being announced.

The committee will invite individuals to come forward and hold a list of eligible coaches.

Regarding national eligibility, Team England will follow rules or guidelines set out by the Eurobowl Committee. If the rules or guidelines are not clear in a particular circumstance then the committee will make a ruling.

7. Eurobowl Team Selection
The English Eurobowl Team Captain picks the team subjectively. Choices are guided by soft principles of selection which are not absolute. The principles are: Participation in tournaments, Contribution to the community and Gaming Skill. It is also preferable for players to have attended a tournament in Europe before being selected. Players should play fair and uphold the spirit of the Eurobowl tournament.
The requirement to have played 25 games is being dropped for this year only, but you do still have to be registered as an English coach on the NAF site. You should also be available for the likely dates of 29/30 October 2022, and be willing to pay to fly to Malta.

On behalf of the Committee, I would like to invite you to nominate yourself to be part of Team England. Please do not nominate others. Ensure that you will meet the qualifying criteria, both the need to be an English NAF member.

Nomination Process
There is no need to nominate yourself publicly this year.

I will be looking for a proven track record of successful bloodbowl against top-quality European coaches. The Eurobowl is very different to local NAF tournaments. The stakes are higher, and the competition is fierce (often literally).

I would like you to send me an email, to peter_woodroffe@hotmail.com
In your email, I would like you to briefly summarise:
  • What Bloodbowl you have played in the last 2 years, either local or online
  • Your experience of playing top-notch European coaches
  • Your planned tournaments for the next 12 months
  • Your thoughts on which races you might like to use, that you think would be competitive under the Maltese draft rules.

Timeline:
Deadline to put yourself forward: midnight Sunday 28 November 2021.
I will contact all nominees, and announce the team by Sunday 7th December

EurOpen
After the Eurobowl team for Team England has been announced, the committee will be looking for people to put themselves forward to be the Team England representatives in the EurOpen.

Please share this post with anyone whom you think might be interested in being part of Team England, but will not see it otherwise, including on social media.

Do you have a link to the draft ruleset? I think I have it, but I'm not sure I have the right one?

Two weeks to go. Some more nominations would be useful! At the moment my son is on the team by default...

I'd love to. But I don't think I'm good enough, don't qualify and can't afford travel to Malta :(

Qualification is by strength of argument this year, Al! Unless you aren't English... but even that can be argued!

Re: 2022 Team England TEAM ANNOUNCED

Post by PeteW »

Team England 2022

Dear Team England Community.

I am very pleased to be able to announce the new Team England line up. Three of the coaches chosen for 2020 were not able to put themselves forward for 2022 for a variety of reasons, one of whom is Besters. In honour of him being picked, but not able to play, the number 27 will still be his, and not reused.

Despite losing three members, others have put themselves forward, and I am very grateful to all of the applicants for giving me a very healthy (but difficult) choice to make. The final eight are:

PeteW
Purplegoo
Geggster
Lycos
Podfrey
Joemanji
Don_Vito
KFoged

Let the other nations tremble!

KFoged is playing for England for the first time, and so will wear the number 28. A veteran of the Danish team, Kaare has lived, worked and romanced England and made it his home, for which we are very pleased, and is now proud to call himself English. Hurrah!
