don't waste your money guys..

I had one of these about 10 years ago, but they magnify everything, so as soon as you put your brush near the model it looks like you're painting with a house-brush!

seriously, it doesn't help at all... if you can't see the model well enough as it is, get your eyes checked..

I've thought about getting one of these but I already paint too slow, I just know if I had one of these I'd slow down even more.

I just picked up a magnifying light myself. Like Norse says it does magnify everything, but I find they do help a bit. I used one back in my jewellery design/repair days. And now I want one just for painting eyes. I was working on a Horkon Heartripper, and the face looked fantatsic until I did the eyes and screwed it up.

To be honest I do think this kind of equipmwnt is a big waste of time most models that come around....

Think about it; if it looks great under magnification that does not mean it will look good on the table-top...

Also,. if the naked eye cannot see it clearly accross the table then why would you be so concerned as to how it looks under a a magnifying glass.

Don't get me wrong, occasionally it might help you get at some tricky to reach detail, but on the whole you're probably better off with out it

don't waste your money, i have one, never use it, they are crap.

Why? because you lose the 3 dimensional view when using it and by this you lose the feeling of when the brush will hit the surface of the mini.

i agree... happend to me, too. So i dont use it for painting...

I got myself the same thing very cheap in one of those homeworker shops. Sometimes i used this thing for holding minis for milldrilling, but the " teeth" of the hands are quite sharp...

about the only use I've found for mine is either holding gluing parts together or when I'm sculpting - sometimes it cn be easier having both hands free. I rarely use the magnifying glass though.

I have one also ... found it horrible for actually trying to paint with for the reasons that Norse and Tim gave.
