You do not have to excuse yourself for not painting them yourself. Now is the paintjob much better.

Use a regular sunburst yellow or bad moon yellow - Depending on how "Yellow" you want the basecoat.

Then use a very thinned out red wash.

Highlight with yellow&White.

For more complicated buildup - Use white as basecoat.
Place firery orange in the cracks and parts in shadow. Not a thick layer , but thin lines of orange.

Then use yellow as coat.(When using orange under yellow it gets a really good "glow" after yellow coat.

Thin orange and wash.
Highlight with yellow and yellow+white.
