Getting into bloodbowl - Looking for teams and advice

Hey everyone!

I am getting into blood bowl and buying my teams. I am uncertain on what to purchase. Perhaps you can give me some advice on what to get. Tell me if I am missing something. Are there any star players that are must haves? Edit: It seems from reading the forums that star players are a waste and unnecessary. I want to play mainly in tournaments and possibly some local leagues.

Orc
4 BOB
4 Blitzers
2 Throwers
5 Lineman
2 Goblins (Should i get more goblins and a Troll?)
Edit: I ended up getting 4 Goblins and the Troll.

Human
4 Blitzer
1 Thrower (Should I get another one?)
2 Catchers (Should I get 1-2 more?)
6 Lineman
(Should I get an Ogre?)
Edit: I ended up getting 1 extra Thrower, Catcher.

Dwarf
2 Runner
2 Blitzer
2 Troll Slayer
6 Longbeards (Should I get 2 or 3 more?)
(Should I get a Deathroller?)
Edit: I chose to get 2 more Longbeards and no Deathroller for now. Seems people think they're not worth it.

Skaven
4 Gutter Runners
2 Storm Vermin
1 Thrower (Should I get 1 more?)
7 Line Rats
1 Rat Ogre
Edit: I got the extra Thrower

Edit: New Teams purchased

Undead
2 Mummies
2 Wights
4 Ghouls
5 Zombies (Is this enough Zombies?)
3 Skeleton (Will I need more skellies?)

Wood Elf
2 Wardancers
3 Catchers
9 Linemen (Do I need another lineman?)
1 Thrower
1 Treeman

Edit: I ended up getting 1 extra lineman.

I am looking to buy these teams:

Necromantic, Lizardman, Amazon.

Also looking for team transfers/decals for the Human Marauder team, Skavenblight Scramblers team, and Orcland Raider team.

Thanks

The answer to each of your questions above is "Yes." Since you're apparently buying a lot of teams all at once you will have a nice mix and can try each of them to see which style of play you like best (speed, bashy, Dwarf, etc...)

I disagree. You don't need more than 7 Dwarf blockers. If you get a Deathroller you probably won't need more than 6. Dwarf team with 13 players is probably optimal under LRB5.
And although I can't speak from personnal experience, I note some Skaven coaches don't use one thrower, let alone two.

OK first - welcome!

Next looking at teams:

Orcs fine, with Black Orcs they don't need a troll to start up but may want to add one after a few games.

Orc
4 BOB
4 Blitzers
2 Throwers
5 Lineman
2 Goblins (Should i get more goblins and a Troll?)

Humans I would have 2 throwers if you can but starting with one is Ok. An Ogre again is a luxury that I would add after a few games but you should have one.
Human
4 Blitzer
1 Thrower (Should I get another one?)
2 Catchers (Should I get 1-2 more?)
6 Lineman
(Should I get an Ogre?)

Dwarves I think is Ok but would have extra longbeards as back up. Some players like deathroller, it certainly deals a lot of damage but is not necessary in this team.
Dwarf
2 Runner
2 Blitzer
2 Troll Slayer
6 Longbeards (Should I get 2 or 3 more?)
(Should I get a Deathroller?)

Skaven I would have 2 throwers, rest is as much as you need.
Skaven
4 Gutter Runners
2 Storm Vermin
1 Thrower (Should I get 1 more?)
7 Line Rats
1 Rat Ogre

Incedently I have all of these in my store (check out link below, either Blood Bowl miniatures/team deals or just individual figures) If you cannot
find anything give me a shout. 8)

Hope it helps!

My strategy when buying/painting a new team is as follows:

Get all the positionals up to their roster limit and as many linemen-type players you need to start with them in a league.

For example: With Dark Elves you might start out with 8-9 linemen in a league and have 2-3 positionals (Blitzers, Witches, Runners, Assassins). So I bought 9 linemen, 4 Blitzers, 2 Witches, 2 Runners and 2 Assassins. Ready for anything, be it league or tournament.

Also don't be afraid to go non-GW with a lot of your figs. You can get cheaper, and in some cases, better product with other lines. Tritex's site is nice, but also scour ebay for deals. With some patience you can really get stuff for a steal. I've bought full unopened team boxes for $15 after shipping a few times, usually closer to $25...but that's still a lot cheaper than retail.

I agree with Lauth on this. If you don't know how you're going to play but order anyway get the full positionals and big guy. Linemen should add up to quite a few, I start wood elf teams for leagues with 10 or 11 of them. Positionals will keep all the SPP to themselves and when they drop dead you have a huge problem because the rest of the team have very few skills. For dwarves I start with many less linemen because the positionals are easier to replace,

For the humans: take a look at the latest Games Workshop metal human team, it contains everything you might need except for the ogre. A good way for calculating a likely starting roster is to see what you can buy if you buy three re-rolls. If you then are left with a single positional, or just fragile positionals, you may want to start with 11 linemen. The question is whether it matters that one miniature looks like a thrower if your opponent knows they're all linemen.

Are Chaos Dwarfs and Necro teams worth buying? Are they still top teams under 5.0 or should I go for Dark Elves and Nurgle? They seem to be moving up in the tier rankings? I didn't put them on my list because they are listed as "harder to play" in the rulebook. What about the Khemri?

Thanks
