Gentleman's agreements.

I think this really needs to be brought back into the lime light.

What ever happened to the idea of the "Gentleman's agreement. I recently saw an auction that i was interested in, but another TBB member was already bidding on it. In the end, he could have got the item for about £5, but another TBB member stepped in and forced it up to about £20, but still didn't win.

WHY??????????????????
If you see another TBB member bidding on an item, figure out how much you are willing to pay, and then PM them and see who is willing to pay the most. Then back away if you are the lower bid. Why the hell make some one pay more money than necessary for an item if you are going to lose the bidding war anyway.

If it is a 1st ed spike, or a GD lizzie team, ok, all bets are off, but for other stuff, it'll come aroud again, be patient, you wouldn't like it if some one jacked up the auction price on you, and it turned out to be some one that you considered a friend\acquaintance or whatever!!

And you know what i hate more?? The fact that i know that that auction will be broken up and sold in bits!!!!!

Lets bring back the gentleman's agreement. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Being on the receiving end of having my bid bumped up by a reseller on TBB I can only echo this :( . I wouldn't have minded so much if it had been another TBB'er who genuinely wanted the stuff, but it irks somewhat that I had to pay extra to stop the stuff going to someone who would just sell it again at a profit. In fairness to them they didn't step in at the last minute and chipmunk me on it though (I don't know whether this was because of TBB or the price was too high for them by then :-? ).

I haven't been active on Ebayfor a while but I think it's best to drop the guy a line and asking him to at least give note that he'll drop in a few bids as well ..

Well in the spirit of this is anyone from TBB angling at this?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1

Because I'm considering swinging in hard late (final 6 hours or so) on this lot otherwise.

yeah i was looking at that. most i'd go up for would be £120. if you want it though, i'll leave it alone. ah back to the heady days of gentlemen's aggreements. this takes me back.

I was just thinking along those lines, are there is some things in there that I dont want, like the pitch and the books as I have all them already.

Maybe we could buy in between us and split it?

Well I have weighed in with £150 maximum bid for now, I have them foe 112 at the moment. If I win I will be looking to sell some of it on.
