Well, great teams have one or two losses in season... let's hope this is your last. At least, the most important injuries were not against your starplayers, so you really had luck. As I told you before, some more guard and mighty blows would have been better than stand firm and so on, but...

I think the Asgard Raiders will take some hard hits...

Fire the troll and buy another one. With your league rules, your strategy is a good one. Fire him if he gets injured and waiting that he gets block as his first skill upgrade.

I'd keep him until his second skill, see if he gets a double like you said. -1MA isn't a terrible think for a Troll, but it will be forever until he gets another skill and really you want Block asap.

Having more Guard would certainly help against bash teams, but its down to personal tastes that you take Stand Firm so that's cool. Just make sure you get a bit of Guard as well for those situations.

And the Crusties just sound mean. Sounds like they need a round with another killer team, just so they can cull each other a little.

Having guard makes that the other team often cannot block at two dices. That helps a lot. The opponent starts getting overwhelmed by such situations and starts making errors.

Been away for a while.

Okay, It's been three weeks since I posted anything. In that time I've played 4 games. I've forgotten most of the details and for that I apologise... now that were a lot closer to the finals I'll make a bigger effort to keep you guys posted. In the meantime, please allow me to fill you in on the last couple.

The Well Goes Dry

After the bone jarring loss to the Circus I was up against the Asgard Raiders. I was eggar to get my hands on some AV7 players and boy oh boy was Greedy gonna cop it. I received and induced a Merc Troll with Guard and the Bomber. Well in T1, I had the Raiders Snow troll in the middle of his two Ulfs and his two Runners... All within short pass range of my bomber! After my blocking was finished I set out to capitalise on this cherry opportunity and promptly fumbled the bomb and the following Loner roll! Of course it knocked down two of my other players and killed the bomber didn't it.

The rest of the game didn't fair much better... I had the "Duh, Where Am I" card (which required you target a stunned opposing player) but couldn't use it until turn 12 because I just couldn't buy a knock down or AV break. In the first the Goons drew it out as long as possible barely squeaked in a point with the help of my trusty AG4 blitzer, Busta Rektum. The Raiders quickly answered and we went into the 2nd half tied up 1-1. I was defending and had some really lucky knock downs that freed the ball in a bad space. No one could really get their hands on it. I needed everyone close to throw blocks and blitz but that left the ball with no one to get it.

Now here is why every Orc team needs a Goblin. with the help of a re-roll I passed 4 dodge rolls, picked up the ball, 2 more dodges and two GFIs for a hand off. A goblin can do anything! Here you are with a killer high strength team and your little squirt, who most consider little better than a One turn threat, pulls off the most amassing Agility play that no one can plan for!

Well of course I failed to catch the hand off with Busta and was back where I started. Greedy's dice dried up a bit and a skull-RR-skull had me away. it was nearing the end of the drive and my St4 blitzer managed to get the ball and even had a little coverage! Well it was all for not, Greedy rolled a spate of dodge rolls and my Goon was completely surrounded. In T15 I managed to knock out 3 of the guys covering me, and in T16 I Blitzed free to hand off to Busta for another TD and game winner!

The Casualty dice had truly dried up and Biff was getting mauled by the snow troll all game. He was never in a position to get a hold of anyone and with the low injury turn over, I needed my blitzes elsewhere! It wasn't exactly a Good "Make up game" but it was fun and a tight win... just how I like them!

Revenge is Mine!

Next up was the Cursed Companions of the Carnivale, the Chaos team coached by Parabola and the team that I credit for me losing the RotGut Dungeon match to the Thunderhawks. If he didn't Blitz Biff (the Golden Boy as he calls him) in the dying turns of that game, if he instead blitzed a bloody elf, I may have won!

Well I was really keen to get stuck into the Carnies but it just wasn't gong to work out... I started really well, with two big casualties in the first three turns, taking out his ST4 Beastman and crippling the hated Vincent Vivisection (he even failed the Apo roll) but the Carnies just refused to get hurt after that. Biff was as dry as a bone again...

There wasn't much to comment about this game... The Goons played the game they always do. They stoned the CCC on offence and stonewalled them on defence. They did manage a break away but Biff (My Boy!) was there to dodge his way to a one dice blitz that destroyed the Ball carrier and the scatter went between two of the Goons. The CCC failed to pick up and the Goons walked in a 2nd TD to grab a shut out and the win!

Now my Blitzers were starting to look good... A few more SPPs and they all would have 76+ points. The BoBs were all still floundering at the 20+ mark and I don't know why they refuse to get any MVPs! The team still performs really well and although Guard has it's place, the Stand Firm wall that the team throws up is just too hard to punch through or get away from.

I Need a New Apothecary

After that I was getting desperate for opponents, no one wanted to play me or those that did were busy or Uncle Crusty (no way I play him again this season if I can help it!). Lucky for me I managed to line up a game against one of the leagues other Orc teams, the Smashin' Bashas. I was giving away 500+ in inducements to the young Orcs, but that's not always a good thing. Orcs get some really good players and with AV9 they are good at getting quality from their players. My team is geared more to bashing so it'd be AV9 v AV9 to see who wins. The Bashas took a Wiz, an Apo and a 400K card all up.

It started well, I was on my way through his line, still shy on casualties despite playing a suitable pitch card, and managed to get the ball on the move in Busta's Hands. That's where it all came apart... I was bolted and that's no surprise, then he Broke AV by rolling double 6. (That surprised me a little) Then he rolled 6-3 for injury... Then he rolls a niggle for the result. It may only be T3 but I gotta use my Apothecary... I roll -MA. Well I can't give -MA to my +MA player now can I? In the future I'm just going to have to trust his AV9 to keep him safe.

I still recovered and made a drive to the end zone with Brick (my ST4 Blitzer) and confident that no one would catch me I stalled for a turn. That’s when he plays “Da Freight Train” and a ST5 blitzing machine takes the Pitch and cleans Brick up. I couldn’t get the ball back after it scattered off the pitch so the half ended 0-0.

He set up to receive and I stymied his efforts with the Good Ol’ Stand Firm. He came close to a break away but missed the order of the play and left me and opening that I exploited and my Thrower got the ball to my Goblin who hoofed it to the end zone with a few turns to spare. In the dying seconds of the game neither of us made much headway and it ended 1-0 to me

Other than the Wizard toasting Busta, and my Lousy apothecary botching the one stupid job I give him, the game was fun. Like really fun! Although the result wasn’t exactly spectacular, the game it self was a hoot!

Next up, The Sharman’s Bloodletters. Well sorta, Razwel has had a bust personal schedule lately so he felt it was best to cancel and I went searching for a game and came up with one against the Seven Deadly Sins.

I Feel Guilty... but not really.

I’ve had a lot of luck against the Sins in the past, and this game was no exception. With 220K of Busta missing the game, he didn’t have much to induce and got an Apo, two babes and three 50K cards. I took a 100K and scored the one that gives everyone on your team Stand Firm for a turn… Awe-fcuken’-some!

Well I started the game trying to get Andy Pipkin his 6th SPP and botched the Pass (no surprise) but made up for it by inflicting a casualty with Brick that brought him past 76. In turn two Andy got his completion and I had two skill rolls in the bag. Right then, one of the BoBs copped a –AV from a ST3 beastman… How embarrassing! My Awe-fcuken’-some Apothecary rolls exactly the same result and Big Jaff is out of the next game and permanently injured! What’s up with my Apo???

Well I set about trying to get Dr. Madvibe three TDs so he could also get a roll for being past 76 SPPs, but as usual, I couldn’t score a Casualty for the life of me. I was missing all the simple stuff and failing to knockdown anyone and barely stunning those I did knock down… I was trying to the guys next to me that the dice were against me, but since I was winning 2-0 they didn’t seem to care.

In the dying seconds of the game the Goons went off in the worst way! I inflicted 5 casualties in two turns and lord knows how many knock outs! From T13 to the end of the game I was on fire!!! Poor Biff didn’t do to well but still inflicted one casualty. Uncle Crusty looks close to taking the “Leagues Leading Casualty Machine” title off Biff but what the heck, Biff has only played two seasons and the Crust has played three. His minor victory will be hollow.

I landed three skill rolls and took Guard on Brick, Grab on Maddvibe and Dirty Player for Andy. This has set me up nicely for a good finals run! If I face Crusty and I likely will, I’ll be looking through the 100K deck for the chainsaw to give to Andy and wait for the Dirty Uncle to Pile On!!!

Next game I have been challenged by an Old Coach with a new Undead team with only 4 games under their belt… 5 maybe… Need less to say I’ll be up against more than 1000000 in inducements and it’ll be interesting to see how it goes down! I plan to throw as many completions as I can with Chuck and hopefully get leader before the finals start. Also looking to get Ricky Wallop-nutz a heap of TDs (not easy for a MA3 BoB) and he’ll take guard. If the Goons go off I’ll try to get The Incredible Bulk in the end zone too.

Again, sorry for the absence but my new job affords little free time to get all the goodies on paper!

Didn't you know that Bombers always kill themselves? It's an unwritten law.

Raiders Raided!

Well I had some Trouble with my Round 16 game, but after some negotiation I managed to line up Greedy Smurf and his Norse Raiders for another Tussle. I was fortunate that his Snow Troll was sitting out for a match, but he induced both Bombs and a Chainsaw for the match so I was wondering just how fortunate I really was.

Well what can I say! I think the Raiders were a little embarrassed, or perhaps should have been. I started the Drive trying to get a TD for my MA3 BoB, since he refuses to cause an injury or net an MVP, but the Raiders did an excellent job tying me up. A stripper dispossessed me of the ball and the Raiders AG4 throwing machine attempted an awesome pass that would have had me on the defensive… that is until my BoB intercepted! That’s the Goons 2nd ever interception (3rd if you count the one that was saved by Safe throw against the Hawks).

I tried to get him moving but just couldn’t as the Raiders did an excellent job tying up he team! They had a player every place I didn’t need one. The Goons were really hot on the night but in the dying seconds of the half, they really struggled and failed all the easy stuff. For the last turn, Busta passed 2x 3+ dodge rolls, and a 2+… only to fail the pick up that would have me ahead 1-0. Just as important, it would have forced one of his Secret Weapons on the pitch for a single turn (only to get ejected!)

So I kicked to him in the 2nd and was annoyed to still be 0-0. Luckily I rolled a Blitz! I stunned the Chainsaw and ran my Goblin towards the ball at break neck speed. If the raiders wanted the Ball they were going to have to work for it!

His offence was stymied by my mass SF and the plays were getting desperate! I snuck my Goblin with SS & Catch into his endzone, and the Raiders knew that a minor mistake would cost them a point! The Thrower attempted a Long Bomb to his AG4 lineman, despite being in a TZ (like I said, things were getting desperate) when Dr. Maddvibe snagged the Goons 3rd ever interception! Greedy cursed Nuffle and the Goons threw some injury time blocks as I set up my Short pass to score… 3-RR-2 later and my missed pass scattered off the pitch and towards the AG4 lineman.

This time Greedy’s thrower went to the right towards an open blitzer… and Brick snagged the third interception of the game! The Raiders Offence was now totally ineffective!!!! Every attempt to move the ball was for naught. The Goons were looking Hot but to be honest, their own offence wasn’t looking much better! But with the eggs all in the pudding, the Goons managed the Pass they needed to grab what would be the winning TD.

The Raiders had a few turns to tie it up, but Bad Passes or lousy dodges ruined him. His frustration cost him at least one play where he used a RR on a Skull-Push block when he really needed it elsewhere to move the ball… But that’s Blood Bowl! How many times have we just said “Screw this, I wanna kill someone!” The Goons took a Good looking win, We didn’t skill up anyone, but we did manage to ensure a full roster for the finals and another Casualty Hat-Trick for Biff. (His 10th career CAS Hat-trick)

~

Now with the regulation Season over we look to the finals. At the start of the season I set the following Goals:
Here are my Season 4 goals…

1) Win a place in the RotGut Invitational. (I need to lead the division or get enough points to take the wild card slot)
2) Win the Rising Star award (and gain a fan favourite)
3) Place 4th or higher after regulation play
4) Advance to the Semis (that would land me a 4th place finish at a minimum)
5) Win a trophy (any one will do)
6) Have two players win a medal (this is probably the hardest to accomplish)
1) Done, but I lost the game… so that one is a little tainted
2) Done, Biff is ‘My Boy!’
3) Done, The Goons placed 1st out of all teams!
4) I look pretty good to pull off this one…
5) My Semi Final match up should be against the Circus (if my predictions are accurate), and my history against them is simply awful. I think that a Bronze may be the best I can hope for.
6) There is no way I get this one! Unless one of my other guys starts killing people, the other medals are truly out of reach.

If I can get a Bronze Cup I’ll have hit 5 out of 6 goals. That’s an awesome season… IF I can win Bronze.

One personal goal for me is to now ignore the further development of the team. With all the inducements that will be levelled against me, I’m 100% Focused on winning. As far as I’m concerned, the team I have now is it. Any further skill rolls will be a bit of butter now, instead of a target. I also need to stall less, One bad card and I could be in trouble.

Score, Score… Win, Win.

With a lot of luck I may just be the next BABBL Champ!

Another great write up for a great team!
Fingers crossed that you advance and Uncle Crusty's Circus suffer a bad dice game and fall by the way side before you have to meet them!

Go Goons!
