Great news
Only thing is that the date in the rules section says 9th and 10th october. So I guess this is a mistake....
And which TV will be used 100, 105 or higher

Regarding the rules and the captain picking the opponents:
It has occurred to myself and some fellow Englishmen that this may result in a lot of similar match ups for certain races throughout the tournament. For example it is unlikely that someone is going to elect to put their Amazon team up against the Dwarf sides.
Lizardmen won't want to be facing Wood Elves
I think this will result in some coaches playing against the same race quite a lot during the tournament. Not sure how everyone else feels about that but it isn't my idea of fun ;]
I also expect to see a lot of the same races that making an appearance in most national teams like every previous year as well. Say hello to Undead, Wood Elves, Orcs, Dwarfs etc
The captain picking games would work better if each nation was perhaps likely to be taking a different range of races, but as that strikes me as unlikely, the picking of match ups by the coaches will make the tournament even more dull in that respect.
What's everyone else think?

Without going into great detail, I basically agree with Grum's point about reduced variety of matches.
Unless a captain takes a crazy gamble or makes a big error then races will always be able to avoid their 'bogies' (those which they struggle against most) i.e. Amazons vs. dwarf/CD should never happen, nor should e.g. Lizards vs. Wood Elf.
Or is there something we missed?

this only became apparent by trying out some dry runs, the idea sounds good initially before you actually try out how you would pick games yourself

I do not see the problem like this. I think it could turn the other way.Pippy wrote:Without going into great detail, I basically agree with Grum's point about reduced variety of matches.

A coach elects a team and the other coach elects their bogie. When coach A elects amazones the chances are great that they will have to face the dwarves of the other team. In that case you will get more one-sided matches.

Yes but the captain wouldn't elect their amazons, they would wait for a favourable team the other side elect and then pick amazons and elect something safer like undead for the opposition to pick a race for

Actually this rules has got 2 main purposes :Pippy wrote:Unless a captain takes a crazy gamble or makes a big error then races will always be able to avoid their 'bogies' (those which they struggle against most) i.e. Amazons vs. dwarf/CD should never happen, nor should e.g. Lizards vs. Wood Elf.

- creating a real discussion between 2 teams which will permit a better communication between the Nations and the players
- increasing the role of the captain and the strategy choices
After, we are thinking that maybe some selections won't choose the "traditionnal" rosters in order to avoid the traps of this pairing mode (amazons vs dwarves for instance).
Finally, and that's an important point too, maybe that what you think about the classic matches (dwarves vs amazons, Lizards vs Woodies, etc...) is not what some other captains are thinking... I mean, I've seen in Italy some players telling me that the lizards (or any other roster) should be mounted so and so (with specific skills) and I must admit that we weren't always agree. So we have all our own vision of what does make sense and it's often different from one to another.
in summary I don't think that this rule of pairing will necessarly leed to standardized matches because we don't have the same vision of things. Some people (good players) even think that in a dwarves vs amazons match the girls have an advantage...
We'll see if the captains will be clever.

Re: Eurobowl/Eur'Open Bowl october 16, 17 . Anglet France
I share Grum's opinion. If the captains choose matchups it will come to a lot of mirror matches...
Random draws like EB 05 was one of the best systems I played so far.
I also see a problem that if a captain chooses there will be a problem as he's involved in the game and I can't see why he for himself should choose dwarves if he plays Amazons e.g..... This will also strain the Individuals results.
Cheers

This is a team competition and the individual results don't matter (it's not NAF this year) except for the individual ranking, though the Eurobowl MVP is not necessarly the best player of the week end (in any system).kithor2002 wrote:This will also strain the Individuals results.
A precision : This pairing system hasn't been invented for the Eurobowl 2010, it exists and has been approved in the Warhammer competitions since many years.
