Brettonian rosters

Post by Joemanji »

Which of these Brettonian rosters do you like (if any)? Some of us have been discussing these alternative rosters in the recent topic:

http://www.talkbloodbowl.com/phpBB2/vie ... php?t=8978

We think that there is a possible gap for a Brettonian BB team, as they are the only WFB army without a corresponding team. Because of this, there is great scope for models, either converted or produced by GW themselves!

This said, we all strongly believe that the team should be designed from a Blood Bowl angle, and not just be a Brettonian "army" playing BB. :roll: We would think it would be better if the team did not play in exactly the same way as the existing rosters. Rather, they should introduce a new style of play, in the same way as the Vampire team.

So we have tried to carry the feel of the Brettonian feudal society through in these rosters.

ROSTER #1

This is a team of poorly equipped and uncared for lesser-lights led by the more arrogant and flashy blitzers and blockers. This is intended to be a human team with a running style - something that isn't over-represented in BB already. So pretty average stats with some useful skills to compensate - but still reasonably cheap.

Code: Select all

0-12 Linemen  40K 6 3 3 7 - {G}
0-2  Runners  50K 6 3 3 7 Sure Hands {G, P}
0-2  Blockers 80K 5 3 2 9 Tackle, Stand Firm {G, S}
0-4  Blitzers 100K 6 3 3 8 Block, Pro {G, S}

Re-rolls 50K
ROSTER #2

Is a team designed to be style over substance. A flash and show off team rather than rock hard knights. Afterall the Brettonian knights might be great with a sword or at jousting buts thats not particularly useful on a bloodbowl pitch. To this end the younger generation of knights are forsaking traditional ' knightly' skills to focus on bloodbowl skills.

Code: Select all

0-12 Linemen  50K 6 3 3 8 - {G}
0-2  Throwers 70K 6 3 3 8 Pass, Dump-Off {G, P}
0-4  Catchers 80K 7 3 3 7 Catch, Leap {G, A}
0-2  Blitzers 90K 6 3 3 8 Block, Dump-Off {G, S}

Re-rolls 50K
ROSTER #3

This is designed to be a BB team that is more like a French rugby team than knights playing BB.

Code: Select all

0-12 Linemen  50K 6 3 3 8 - {G}
0-2  Throwers 70K 6 3 3 8 Sure Hands, Dump-Off {G, P}
0-4  Catchers 70K 8 2 3 7 Catch, Dump-Off {G, A}
0-4  Blitzers 90K 7 3 3 8 Block, Dump-Off {G, S}

Re-rolls 50K

I think that balance wise, ian's price on the blitzers in #3 is fine, since the thrower and the catcher on the team lost some very good skills for the rather crappy dump off.

But I don't really like any of those teams. #1 is the most interesting, as it tries to bring a new element into the game with the blockers. Unfortunately, the 7 AV linefodder would get them slaugtered when their lack of catchers or exceptional movement starts to come into play. None of them seem to have big guys, either.

They are cheap enough to be replacable though. They are fodder-linos (like zombies) rather than almost-as-good-as-your-positional-players-linos (like elves). I'm assuming all the roster would have the same BG access as a normal human roster.

Not overlly keen on any of them, but #1 is my prefered option of the 3.

Definately the runner team. Has the character that no other human team has, and would be more exciting to play therefore.

And I'm not trying to increase my total votes Sean, but I would also like to add that I think that the Bretts have been very ignored in BB, which is why this is a very useful poll and hopefully taken on board. I will be changing my Compendium team to team 1 on the poll, the rest of my League permitting. Good job Naz.

Current Human team is not very Empire-like, so could not that team be used for teams with Empire-models, Bret-models or human BB models? In the latest WD JJ mentiones that they are not going to expand current team selection and might do different looking human teams, but they'll use the current roster.

Using basic Human roster and then developing them to be Bretonnian would be the way to go in my mind.

I like all 3 rosters, but think that either mine or Ian's. However mine seems to be the least popular, doh!

I am against making a seperate roster for bretonian teams. Amazon and norse have seperate rosters because they have very different play styles. Bretonia, The Empire, Tilea, Kislev, Estilea, etc are all basic humans. Teams from bretonia should therefore use the basic human roster. If this became official (though I'm sure it won't) what stops people from going on to suggest an empire team? Or Tilean? Or southlands lizardmen? They called the human team a human team to cover all of the basic human lands, not including norse and amazon, they are very different from standard humans.

That was exactly the reason I kept them at 90k.

I'd rate Pass & Dodge as more valuable skills so 6 players lose out, 4 gain. It seemed fair enough.

I'll change it back. :oops: Were the catchers 80K in your roster, or is that a typo on my part? :oops:

I actually agree with this totally. You can give the standard human team a Brettonian "feel" by developing the relevant skill choices. But I wanted to guide some people away from the ridiculous uber-rosters that I have seen on TBB and elsewhere on the net. The 3 rosters above were a compromise, I felt; rosters that al least seemed human.

Bugger! I've completely messed up the poll trying to edit Ian's team. :oops:

For the record the votes were

#1 = 5
#2 = 0
#3 = 4
none of them = 10
