Secret Weapons Idea Archive

Post by Joemanji »

I really think we need to have a stable and recognised set of rules for using secret weapons in BB. If not official, then at least some BBRC-recognised experimental rules (other than the current, half-measure attempt). I really think that secret weapons should be as integral a part of the game as big guys or IGMEOY.

I would like this thread to be a brainstorm session - we can comment on ideas after we have a nice collection.

Any ideas for new weapons or the use of SW in general would be greatly appreciated.

As I see it, the basic structure for using SW (around which we can argue) is:

SECRET WEAPONS

1. Secret weapons can be purchased by a coach in the post-match sequence.

1a. They are purchased for a particular player on the roster. No other player can use the weapon, even if the first is killed or retired.

1b. Only linemen (or equivalents) can be given secret weapons.

2. A team may only have one secret weapon on its roster.

2a. Dwarf teams may have up to two.

2b. Goblin teams may have up to four.

3. Not all races may use all types of secret weapon, or in some cases any. The races which are allowed to use each weapon will be listed in its description. No other races may use it.

4. Secret weapons are used as per the LRB, including penalty rolls etc.

4a. A player with a secret weapon MUST always use it. He cannot choose to leave it in the dugout.

5. There will be no roll to see if a weapon is confiscated.

6. Current list of secret weapons:
Ball and Chain
Chainsaw
Blunderbuss
Poison Dagger
Bombs
Pogo Stick
Deathroller

So, here are my suggestions for price/race:

BALL AND CHAIN - 10K, Goblin, Skaven (Plague Censer). Also, player loses all skills and traits, and has MA 4

CHAINSAW - 40K, Goblin, Chaos, Dwarf, Chaos Dwarf, Human, Orc, Amazon, Norse, Khemri, Necromantic

BLUNDERBUSS - 30K, Dwarf, Chaos Dwarf

POISON DAGGER - 10K, Dark Elves, Skaven

BOMBS - 40K, Goblin, Dwarf, Chaos Dwarf

POGO STICK - 20K, Goblin

DEATHROLLER - 90k, Dwarf. Also, remove all skills and traits, add Multiple Block, Mighty Blowand Stand Firm, MA 4, ST 7, AG 1, AV 10

I would like to reintroduce...

STINK BOMBS - 20K, Goblin, Skaven (Poison Wind Globes)

Penalty Roll = 10+

These work in the same way as normal bombs, except that any player in the target square and any adjacent square is automatically knocked prone. No armour roll is required.

Three minor things:

1. A skaven plague censer bearer does not walk around randomly and attack people, so I don't think skaven should be allowed to use ball and chain.

2. The poisoned dagger should be allowed to skaven gutter runners, not skaven linemen IMO.

3. The pogostick shouldn't remove stunty -- the stunty description already mentions that a player with a secret weapon do get the modifier for enemy tackle zones when dodging. Removing stunty from pogo hoppers whould also remove the range and injury penalties.

Have you ever looked into the BB Annual 2003? :smoking:

Yep. I think those rules are dumb as a bag of hammers. Unlimited weapons on a roster? Positional players with chainsaws? Referees confiscating weapons? Fanatics choosing not to use their ball and chain? Utterly random prices? Check. :pissed:

I wanted to pool some ideas for a decent set of SW rules, plus some ideas for new SW. :D

Sorry, yeah. I was using the star players as a basis for skills and cost, and Scrappa Sorehead doesn't have Stunty.... Not necessary though - I will edit it out. :D

At a glance I prefer the annual rules. Your make the weapons reliable and relatively expensive.

Personaly i want to see a posibility for players to get secret weapons but

1: I want it to be SPP based, you can get the weapon only on an advance.

2: It should be harder to get than a skill, the old rule you get to buy it on a doubble and for goblins a doubble and on a 7 worked for me.

3: Once the player gets a secret weapon he is no longer a real player so it should affect his advancement, personaly I prefer peaking him as he no longer trains with the team but having to gain doubble the SPP to gain new skills works almost as well.

As for who gets to buy them, how much they cost or what exactly they are so on and so forth is open for discussion :)

Yeah, i wouldn't mind it being related to SPP rolls again either
