Change to Blitz method

A little idea that I have used on and off in leagues over the last 3 years:

Normally Blitzing carries the same rules as blocking. That is, that adjacent players are able to assist when the blitz is declared (unless in another player's tackle zone - negating Guard)

Take away the assists from the Blitz rule. Therefore no player is allowed to assist the blitz. Think of it in the vain of someone storming through defences and causing a surprise hit on the opposition. Afterall, does anyone really think that it would be easy to assist someone who's running full throttle at the enemy line?

Tackle zones still apply, so if the blitzing party has to dodge to make it to the opponent he is blitzing then this applies as normal.

I have found that it tends to make games higher scoring (and it does believe me) and also to alieviate the boredom of playing dwarf and orc teams who keep caging the ball!!

It is not something that I have always applied but it does work well, and t also stops star players catchers from being isolated and pummelled quickly!!!

Tell me what you think out there????

What about a wardancer leaping inside a cage .... Not giving any assist to the ball carrier would make then too powerfull i think, and i don t even speak about ST 4 WD yet .... :o

Fair Point....

However, remembering that the elf can only use the leap skill once in that move, he will be trapped within the boundaries of the cage.

An orc cage (for example) could use a black orc blocker to blitz on their next team move and then the balls back in their possession (barring a disaster - which occasionally occurs in bloodbowl anyway!!)

there are a vast number of scenarios where I have found that taking the assists away for the blitz doesn't just make for a higher scoring game but also more of the ball switching between the teams.

It also places more of an emphasis on the use of strength players for blitzing rather than lineman picking up lots of spp's for doing very little given that they're always assisted!

This way seems to emphasise the strengths and weaknesses of each race (thank God there's no open allie rule anymore)

But the ball isn't necessarily trapped - which means another enterprising elf can run in, pick up the ball and move it away from the cage.

I honestly can't say my linemen have been picking up many SPPs for blitzing.

I can kind of see where you're coming from in your rule but it does indeed make cage breaking easier. I don't have a problem with the cage tactuc at the moment. You say you want to emphasize the strengths of various teams. A cage of Dwarfs is indeed emphasising the skills of the Dwarfs - a tough, hardy but slow team.

It weakens guard as a skill, and powers up strength - hence I dislike it...

In fact - I'll have a strength 4 player with the ball. Since blitzing is never assisted I can guarantee a 2 dice my pick block on my ball carrier...

So I don't need to cage with a strength team and I can use the rest of my (hard) team to massacre my opponent..

Thants why I don't like it. I think the assisted blitzes actually allow you a fighting chance to get the ball....

And cage tactics don't work if you're not a good player or don't have a good enough team....
