New Handicap Table - criticism appreciated
When Milo presented his proposal for a new handicap table ( http://www.chubbleague.com/chubb/handicap.html ) I was the opinion that this is the way to go. I proposed it to my league's commissioner and he was convinced by it, too. But I suggested to tweak it a little further, inspired by the discussion and the proposals following Milo's posting.
I uploaded it here:
http://people.freenet.de/optokoax/new_h ... evised.htm
We will give it a try in our league next season. What do you think of it? I'm eager to hear criticism and further (constructive) suggestions in order to make the table (more?) balanced and fun for our league to use.
Any changes are marked red (for those who already know Milo's table).
thanks

The idea of Handicap was (according to BBRC/Milo) not to raise the odds to even but to boost the weaker team.
A TR difference of 10, 25 and 50 means 100K, 250K and 500K $ difference, so for example:
the weaker team gets 1RR, or 20-40K worth SPPs/FF/$ or s.t. similar,
or the stronger team loses on average 1-4 player (=200-300K$) on the strongest table which is fine IMHO.
That means on roughly the TR difference is halved by the handicaps (respectively the rules are bend for one or both teams)

I like the table, overall. It would be nice to see it tested, becasue I think we're to the point at which playtesting it for weaknesses is going to serve us a lot better than looking it over.

@ skummy:
iron man is the same as Milo's version, I think it's no problem bc it's a defensive measure you'll probably give it a lineman for the LOS. You could give it to your top-scorer but he still can be stunned and therefore stopped from scoring in that moment
it wasn't me: that's the trade off - 1 of your choice or 2-4 random as in virus/running late/morley, quality vs. quantity, we shouldn't forget that with this system twice rolls on the 50point table will be highly uncommon, so they won't stack.
@ indigo: you're right, I'll change it

If you want to tweak this to be more clear:
To this
Code: Select all
IN THE BAG! The opposing team is feeling cocky about their chances of winning this match. They can only field the 11 worst available players on their team, based on SPPs. Players who are KO, injured or dead do not count. This restriction stops for the rest of the match as soon as your team takes the lead.

Looks Great!
The Handicap table you have here looks great! I intend to run a "keeper" league starting in the next couple of weeks, and this table will definitely be included. I think it will help a great deal when new teams try to take the field against some of the 1 or 2 season teams.

Don't forget this is a modified version of Milo's table (so credit dues to him)
Actually, we adopted this table for our league because it turned out to be more dangerous for teams to play against teams with 10-20% less TR than to play against same strength teams. The problem were the games where the opponent received one handicap roll and rolled a devastating result against you and the games where the opponent had to roll 4 handicaps and just rolled crap.
