less Ogres (Goblin,Halfling&Orc Team), more Trolls

Post by Toby »

Code: Select all

Troll (Big Guy, Regeneration, Really Stupid)
Blocker Rookie 4/5/1/9 Mighty Blow,Throw Teammate,Always Hungry,Pass 100.000 GE,ST,PA

Ogre (Big Guy, Bone Head, Thick Skull)
Blocker Rookie 5/5/2/9 Mighty Blow,Throw Teammate 120.000 GE,ST
The idea :?: is to give Trolls PASS & access to the PASSING CATEGORY.
This would automatically make them the #1 choice for teams who plan to use them as "Catapults". If you don't care about throwing teammates as a real game plan, you can still go for an Ogre to sharpen your team's bashing profile. Go flame me. 8)

I don't think ogres are taken more often than Trolls because of their better usability as catapults, but rather because Bonehead is a very soft negative trait and the ogre has an overall good profile. Furthermore, most passing skills can't be used in conjunction with Throw Team Mate (there was a topic on this recently I believe)

Still, a goblin being dumped off should be kind of funny to see... :D

*Edit*
I just read this:
BBRC response: Throw Team-Mate can only have Pass, Pro, or Leader used with it.
Maybe only give Trolls ACCESS to the PASSING CATEGORY then.
I would also give them 1SPP per "Safe Landing" after "Accurate Throw". That would make "PASS" and "STRONG ARM" desireable Skills & Traits for a Troll. (Asuming the BBRC would rule STRONG ARM usable with TTM).

Clarify with both Throw Team-Mate and Pass Block which skills can be used in conjuction with them.
BBRC response: Throw Team-Mate can only have Pass, Pro, or Leader used with it. Pass Block may use any skill other than Sprint, Sure Feet, and Jump Up (ie you must be standing already to use Pass Block and since you cannot GFI during a Pass Block, you cannot use Sprint or Sure Feet)

Accurate can't be used with TTM. Strong Arm can, but is a trait.

So what do you think ?

Would you still "Always go for an Ogre" if you could gain PASS and possibly STRONG ARM for your Troll on his first 2 Starplayer Rolls ?

If I was an Halfling or Goblin coach i would pick at least one Troll!

I don't think you can use strong arm on a TTM. If I were a Halfling coach I wouldn't pick a troll since they are not allowed on Halfling teams and because a troll doesn't fit in a halfling team (though the reverse is possible)

On a goblin team I'd take a Troll anyway because of fluff reasons (My Chaos team doesn't have an ogre either; it has a minotaur).

As I said elsewhere, the easiest way to increase the popularity of the Troll over the Ogre is to raise its STR to 6. Easy and clean.

(Or raise the Ogre price to 140-150K but that's not possible bc then the Ogre team would be unaffordable)

I don't think having more Str6 players is a good idea. Str6 should be reserved to Starplayers, Treemen, and, if it will ever be here (what I oppose) a rooky deathroller.

Treemen and Deathrollers had Str7 as Starplayers; so they get 6 as rookies, all other big guys had 6 as starplayers and go down to 5.
The Beast of Nurgle should also have Str5 IMO.

OK here's the package:

Add "Passing" to Trolls & Treemen allowed Skills & Traits Categories.
Allow "Strong Arm" to be used with "Throw Teammate".
A "Throw Teammate Action" that starts with an "Accurate Throw" and leads to a "Safe Landing" counts as a "Completed Pass".

I didn't know so far that the BBRC would even consider 'possible rules changes' due to your new concepts! :o wow! I am impressed! :D

By the way, nice idea to get the big guy earning a skill without blocking or creating a turnover. That's much easier and faster this way! Can I also buy the block skill for, let's say, three gobbos then? Would be even faster and easier... :?:

May we see your rules once they are finished so that we can see your work in complete brilliance????? Do you have a homepage where you can put them up?

Toby, I'm afraid you go the wrong way again
Just to increase the usage of the Troll (which is a good idea IMO) you propose three rule changes. Don't you think you could do it a smoother way, without changing so many different and vital things like skill usages and SPP earnings?

I seriously doubt that Trolls will ever get pass/acces to pass skills officially. You want to improve the dumb guy, fine but giving him pass is not justified in any way. It's like giving Treeman jump-up bc. they are too slow.
