New Halfling Idea

Halfling 5 2 3 6 Wrestle, Right Stuff, Stunty A/GPS 30K
What should this be like? Adding Wrestle to the Halflings and take away Dodge.
That will make the flings harder without whooping the goblins around.
To good or just a bad idea? I think it will change the gamingstyle without being "broken"

Well, they'll get dodge on their first skill but they're still reasonably priced that way..... gotta say I like it alot. This would give them more power against dwarf teams and a basic tool to take down blodging ball carriers with. Wrestle is pretty annoying but most powerful on fast fragile players so it suits halflings quite well (not too powerful but annoying).
You might find two problems with this which stop it working (without further changes):
- all the halflings die too quickly
- their scoring and other strategies may start to fail without the dodging
As an alternative I'm wondering how broken giving them general access would be. I'm not sure that this would be a good step but I do think it would be interesting to trial, I'm envisioning halflings with strip ball, kick, surehands... lots of ball handling skills but no passing capability, no speed, and no strength. Perhaps banning them from taking block but giving them general access?

Well if they had Wrestle and General access people would probably not take Block anyway.
Fend would be a much more useful first skill for most Halflings in this case, along with some Sure Hands so they can actually run the ball a little.
Though there would be some Dauntless spamming, no double. But considering how plucky Halflings are for playing Blood Bowl in the first place it's not too unjustified. Unlike having Diving Tackle, which really doesn't suit them in my opinion.

40K, for having a doubles skill.

Halflings with general access would whoop the skinks with tackle!!! We have to make it balance for playing all teams, not just tier 1.
I think Wrestle will make a big diffrence. When playing other stunties its not broken and if the get dodge as second skill the halfling will be a much better one than they are today with dodge and maybe side step as two skills.
Maybe someone with good experience can playtest some games with wrestle instead of dodge.
Tom (Galak) give it a try

Even with general access (minus block) how many players would end up with much tackle? For tackle to be very effective the halflings would have to knock a fair few players down... something which they cant do alot against most teams. Hence I think it would be a poor team to take much tackle so the tackle vs goblins or tackle vs skinks is unlikely to be hugely unbalanced, especially considering other teams will utilise mass tackle better than halflings.
I'm not sure about balance (making the chef 150k again would be needed) but this could give halfling teams a real character and help make them interesting for people to play again. Something which I love about LRB5 is the way it gives most of the teams better character.... runners for darkelves, secret weapons for goblins, snow trolls for norse etc. For me this was missing from the LRB5 halfling team but making them weak, slow, unagile, breakable but cheap elves with no positionals initially would give them an interesting character (for me) and I think it ould still fit their fluffy pie image.

If they ever caught them...
Plus the Halflings would have to deal with Saurus and Kroxigor all over them. So it's not a bad matchup, unlike any agility team verses Dwarves.

I think halflings would still skill up slowly so would take a while to get much dodge. I the meantime their opponents would be loving how easy it is to tie halflings up. The lack of ability to dodge away would really hurt them.

The trouble with this is that as soon as they get dodge then tackleless players can only hurt them on a pow.
an AG4 dodge fling then would be a true beast of a player. Remember flings are supposed to be awful and lose almost every game.

Hi Spubbba,

So - kind of like once any amazon player gets block. Except the halfling team would then still be a heck of a lot weaker. Doesn't exactly spell broken, or even good, to me.

Hi Stashman,
I don't think this would fly.
Yes, once they gain wrodge they'd be pretty good players. Almost kind of enough to compensate for their ST2 and AV6.
But in the meantime, they'd be a lot easier to tie up, and a lot easier to butcher for the average player. I think it would make them less playable out of the box, and I don't think that is a good idea.
Cheers

Plasmoid.... what do you think of them being able to get general access but keeping their current starting profile? Would it make it a more interesting team to play and develope and would it be too much (for a tier 3 team)?. My main concern would be block (dosent feel like a very flingy skill) but they would get access to more of the finess type skills (I see strip ball and sure hands as finess skills). If this happens should they keep agility access and should they be made a little more pricey?

It's not a bad idea. Certainly hurts 'fling mobility though, making Stunty less useful than it is now... But maybe not by enough to matter.
I know it's crazy to have a second player, but the following would be interesting:
0-16 5 2 3 6 RS, Stunty, Dodge 30k A/GSP
0-4 5 2 3 5 RS, Stunty, Wrestle 50k G/ASP
0-2 Treemen
I would go with that... But I guess it would never fly.

Could split the difference.. make a Halfling lineman with Wrestle and no Dodge, and a Halfling runner with Dodge and no Wrestle.. a lot of people think Halflings need a little positional variety in the roster.

i've gotta say that any team without any form of variety is gonna be well boring to play - my motto is playwith what other people don't and hell even i wont touch halflings
