Since BB is a worldwide game, what about listing all major terms in several languages?

something like this:

LEAP - skill that allows players to leap over squares
FRE= saut (jump)
SPA= salto (jump)
ITA = balzo (leap)
and so on

I can provide italian translation

Fine in theroy, and I laudable idea, but it will cause problems.

1) Fine if a player only has one skill, but will get messy for 2+ starting skills.

2) The fight on this board about which languages should/shouldn't would be as bloody as a BB game :D

3) It'll confuse the hell out of some of us ignorant English speakers who have enough trouble with our native language, let alone some one else. :wink:

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

I had actually translated the entire LRB into an html format with the graphics and everything. The goal was to provide a platform to translate the LRB into other languages to help everyone understand the newest rules.

I asked GW if I made effort to have my html version translated into other languages if they would post it on the site and the answer was a definite undebatable NO!

Each different country has to do their own translations or they aren't done at all. Its one of the agreements each division of GW has with each other. So here's the dilemna ... Fanatic can't post an LRB in French even if somelike I and DFC worked together to translate the LRB into French and then gave it to Fanatic-UK they couldn't do a thing with it.

So unfortuntately to get translations you need to convince your local GW branch in your country do this and I can help you out.

I don't mean to translate the whole rulebook (althought I have found somewhere an Italian translation of it... ) but only game terms like skills, player positions and stuff like that. I got that idea after I read the DungeonBowl rules in French. I had a hard time finding out that Chataigne ("chestnut") was Mighty Blow.

french GW translation was so good that in the french rulebook 3ed ED, the fury had leap instead of jump up...By luck, Trambi and I had English rulebooks.

Oops, I missed this post...

Hum, there are different "problems" here. Something to see with IP, in my opinion, with business, and at least with translation.

1/ Copyrights: I guess you're talking about a "GW approved" webpage. For example, the LRB has been translated in french by 2 or 3 websites, if I remind it well, for different uses (let's say: a work version for a software ;) , a file for coaches in a big and well known league digged out from grave, and another one, just in order to make this rule set known). It should be interesting to take these versions and see what's going on, and where are the typos... BTW, I'm well surprised to learn that GW France should produce a translation without Fanatic agreement ... ? ...

2/ Business: Even if GW France is working on a new magazine which would talk about "lost games" (don't know if they would talk about Blood Bowl; the magazine will be called "Black Goblin", if Dain, Neverdodge, or Trambi know it ...), I'm not sure the fact of sharing a "fan translation" is really in the GW France habits... just an idea. BUT in the same time, I heard talking about minis which should be available in France via mail order ... So when the "pewter force" (the darkest side ;) ) is there, nobody should say what will happen ;) Hope it should make GW paid for a good trnaslation (not made by me, sure ;) )
