Night Crawler team

Hi everyone, this is my first post on the forum. After a lay-off of about 5 years I have been enticed back to BB and am bringing my teenage son with me.

I used to run a very successful Skaven team and a moderately successful Undead team...both GW stock teams.

This time round I am using some very nice figures from Shadowforges collection for a human team but I am really interested in doing something a bit different...welcome to my ideas for a Night Crawlers team in LRB5.

It is based loosely around the Necromantic team but is more Demon based; I have always wanted to do a Demonic team but never really liked the Daemons GW did and the thought of themed powers...uggh!!

I have just bought a bunch of figures which I think will look great on the pitch...if anyone is interested I can tell you what they are, and of course, once they are painted I will put up some pictures.

Anyway...heres the roster...any feedback would be welcomed.

0-16 Demon Worshippers 50K 6 3 3 7 Block G ASP

0-4 Ghouls 70K 7 3 3 7 Dodge GA SP

0-4 Lesser Demons 90K 6 3 3 8 Block and Regen GS AP

0-1 Minor Demon 120K 8 3 3 8 Horns, Frenzy & Regen GA SP

It's designed to be middle of the road but what do you guys think? Maybe my lay-off has puddled my grey matter a bit.

Look forward to the comments.

Worshippers ought to be 40k (the same as thralls & hobgoblins)

Rerolls 60k or 70? I'd go 70 for safeties sake.

Otherwise I can't see anything wrong with the team. I'd maybe even allow 2 minor demons.

The worshippers have block, so they are correctly costed, as per norse linemen.

Overall the team seems fine. Does 0-1 position is a bit odd, as it isn't the typical bug guy. is the team allowed an apothecary? If so, that makes the ghouls quite good.

Agreed with Ian on the rerolls, make it 70K for safety sake.

Appreciate its designed to be middle of the road, but shouldnt the Minor Demon be called a "Demon" in its own right, have ST4 or ST5 and perhaps access to Mutations?

Drop the MA a bit and use it as a real big(ish) guy...

Say:

6 4 3 8 Horns, Frenzy, Regen GSM AP (someone else can price this?)

May be the minor D should be called a Speed Demon...;)

Hi and welcome to the forum!

For the Minor Demon it depends on what you had in mind for him, I mean, you can either go for the catcher/wardancer kind of feeling (and maybe it could be 0-2 choice), or if you thinking along the "big guy" line perhaps you should drop some of the speed and add a bit more strengh.

As stated before, maybe they could have access to mutations (both lesser & minor demons).

By the way, what minis do you intend to use?

Cheers

 I missed that. TBH I prefer them at 40k without block. It helps identify the team as tier 2 and correctly unable to compete long term with the main teams.

Hi all, thanks for the feedback so far. I am yet to work on the finer points of the team but I wanted to produce something that while not being particularly specialised was characterful.

Axtklinge, in answer to your query all the models I am using are from Heresy miniatures, I think with a little patience my converting skills will produce some excellent figures, although only minor changes will be required on some.

Worshippers

I really liked the look of these guys, they have the fanatical kind of look I expect Demon worshippers would have. I know they have robes that would trip a real player up but hey...this is fantasy after all. The nice thing about these figures is you can choose from 3 or 4 different head types. Personally I have gone for leather masks to give a suitable BB feel and will add some shoulder pads to armour them a little.

It shouldn't be too difficult to remove the poles from their hands :-?

The Worshippers are based on the Norse linemen hence their stats and cost.

Ghouls

These are some of the best Ghouls I have seen anywhere...I will be using the 3 crawling ones and maybe the one with the leg...virtually no conversion needed. I will have to think a bit on whether to allow a team Apothercary.

The definition of a Ghoul is a crypt dwelling demon...as such they are not dead and I feel they maybe need to be costed up and given regen perhaps but I am still undecided. The apothecary just for the linemen seems a bit of a waste.

If you look at the team as a whole it's basically human fanatics and Demons, there are no raised dead in the team which is what I was aiming for.

Lesser Demons

These mini's look the biz...I was considering making them a little more expensive and upping their movement...I really like the Speed Demon suggestion Cyagen :D

I had slightly manic in mind for these Demons...like they had just eaten a whole jar of coffee or something. I deliberately want to stay away from mutations on any of the Demons and just let them gain skills so I think the GS AP route is probably right...(and perhaps let them possess a new worshipper when they start to wear out a bit lol).

Minor Demon or Demon
Image

The big Demon is based on the Necromantic teams Werewolf as a starting point. I only want one Minor Demon per team so perhaps ClayInfinity's suggestion is the way to go with 6 5 3 8 Horns, Frenzy, Regen and maybe Mighty Blow but with GS AP rather than GSM AP. I think 140 - 150K would be about right.

As for re-rolls I planned on going for 70K anyway so we will call that settled.

Keep the suggestions coming people...I am waiting for delivery of my mini's and can't wait to build and play test. :D

If you go S5 with the minor demon then you need to lose G, gain loner and a negatrait. Blood Lust might be appropriate.

Cannot wait to face you across the "field of dreams" (probably with halflings!!)

I like the sound of that too. I'd suggest that adding a skill to the demon that compensates for having to change the intended action to a move action would be a good idea (like being able to use Hypnotic Gaze even if your vampire fails its bloodlust roll). For a big scarey demon like that, I like the idea of Disturbing Presence. Then you're pretty close to the snow troll's stats, you could start from those ones instead of the werewolf's.

Man I just had to post after seening the mini's.

I too would also drop the Worshippers to 40k without block, others they look too strong. (As their game will be a little bashy all that blocks a big help)

I also like the idea of a straight up demon (taking the rat ogre as the base)

Demon 0-1: 160k MA6 ST5 AG2 AV8 Loner, Horns, Frenzy, Disturbing Presense, Bloodlust, Skills Normal S Dble GAPM

If your set on Regen add it in and add 10k, most expensive player in the game but 'eck. He is a full demon right!

An alternative "works even if bloodlust fails" skill, which is possibly even more themey than DP, is Leader. There's no way that would ever be allowed as a starting skill on an official BB team, but for a house ruled demon and his hordelings, I'd allow it...
