'Hit too 'ard'

So this is basically an idea we came up with during playing a fun game. The Injury table seems to lack something. So we thought, why is there no such injury that permanently 'grants' a player a malus like 'Bonehead' or 'Really Stupid'? That player had to cope with quite an impact right on his cranium so let him suffer!
The 'Injury could even work the other way round. A Player allready suffering from Bonehead or Really Stupid could loose this drawback by getting a haelthy punch right to push out all the chalk of his brain.
Anyway, it's just a fun idea but somehow it's got some fluff to it. Opinions?

I believe Necromunda had an injury like that in the table. I would be fine with this suggestion, but I am sure someone will soon give us examples of why it is a bad idea...

2nd Ed BB had this, it was called Punch Drunk. When the player suffered a head injury they had a 33% chance of becoming punch drunk from it. Once per game (opposing coaches choice when) a punch drunk player would have to roll on the PD table. Which could knock the player over (they sit down), move them to reserves (while they go ask the coach some questions) or even switch sides for the drive.

like fen said, there were such a rule in the good old time... but let´s pull the fact... the blood is vanishing from blood bowl 3rd edition, it is slowly coming back with the hidden weapons but blood bowl today is far more enduring and fair then earlier editions.
And that´s the fact, if you get bonehead through an injury, it´s far worse then any NI, it´s far worse then characteristic reducing, it´s like killing the player this instant (no one would play a lineman with bonehead until he has around 5 or 6 new skills). If it´s something to throw at the beginning of the game, like NI, then the coach has the hope, not to deal with it, but a fix problem like that...
On the other hand, if a troll lose his really stupid, he would be way more useful then with it.
But for the fun... let´s say we build in another column on our team sheat, called "Head Injuries" Every player with one point of head injury has to throw a d6 before the game, adding +1 for every point to the throw.
2-4= Nothing Happens
5-10= Bonehead
11+= Really Stupid
If you use your Apothecary, you can substract 2 points from your throw.
Trolls and Beast of Nurgle start with 10 Points of Head Injuries
Kroxigors and Ogre start with 4 Points of Head Injuries
Every Time you hurt a part of your head (21-26, 31-33, 43, 44, 48, 56. 57, 58) you throw a d6
1= substract 2 points of Head Injury
2= substract 1 point of Head Injury
3= nothing happens
4= add 1 Point of Head Injury
5= add 2 Points of Head Injury
6= add 3 Points of Head Injury
Something like that would be really funny

Injuries are disappointingly dull in the official BB world. A league should have a proper range of variously debilitating injuries.
The problem with doing something like this under the current structure is that it means the player will be retired as soon as something bad happens to them.

Well if you're house ruling in additional injury types. Then you could also consider bringing in a retirement fee, saying that players have a contract with the team and they have to be given a settlement amount to stop playing.
Then make that amount a portion of their total value. 25% rounded up to the nearest 10K for example. That would force people to think a little before dumping an injured player.
"Drat my three skill Wardancer has lost a point of AG and the greedy git is demanding 40K to retire on!"
"Lucky you, my two skill +ST Rat Ogre lost a point of ST and is demanding 70K."
Obviously it goes without saying that a dead player doesn't cost the team anything.

I love the idea of a retirement fee! I think we should have that in LRB 6. In fact, I'm off to that thread right now to make that point...

We toyed around with a severed hands injury giving you the no hands skill. We couldn't decide what happens when you get take extra arms for skill up though. Lose no hands, lose no hands and get extra arms etc.
Same argument arises if you give a player with extra arms a secret weapon from a card...

I've no problem with people extending the permanent injuries to include gaining negative traits - maybe swap one of the niggles for Bonehead, if you already have bonehead gain really stupid.
As for losing them I don't like the idea myself but if you want to do it then allowing it on a snake eyes for a skill roll & costing 50k would probably work okay.

At the risk of getting to similar to real sport, how about injuries which take a player out for several games rather than just 1. As missing players don't count towards TV this could work well.

I don't think this'll necessarily be taken on board by officialdom but I like your line of thinking and you might want to check out my serious injuries.
