TheoryBowl: Size Rules

Post by Vero »

A thing that is pretty well written for one-off games but goes somewhat off when progression rules is used is sizing. A Rookie Big Guy will do more carnage to other teams than BoBs or Blitzers for example, but after some skill rolls, even normal, a Mighty Blow player will do the same damage as the Big Guy - the only difference being their strength. Now, this is fine, and definetly not broken, but it could be better. Stunties doesn't even get "broken" because stunty cannot be acquired! The answer is the size rules, simple enough to fit in a few paragraphs.

Big Guys, who are identified by the Big Guy -skill lose Mighty Blow and Throw Team Mate (let's face it, only the Kroxigors don't have it) and 'gain' them back written to the Big Guy skill. This allows Big Guys to take another Mighty Blow and become again deadlier and scarier than Mighty Blow Blitzers! Also one could also write an opposite for Stunties +1 to injury rolls -sentence, -1 to injury rolls, as being strong and definitely harder to hurt if they ever hit the ground.

Normal sized player, who doesn't have Big Guy or Stunty, remain the same.

Stunty. Remains the same, or is rewritten to include Right Stuff, which might greate a problem with secret weapon stars not being throwable, though from my viewpoint, is not a great issue.

These rules fit pretty well for vault also. As a minus, Yetii's (or whatever it was) claw doesn't fit nicely to the merge of Mighty Blow with Big Guy.

Doesn't that just make just about every team one or two big guys who duke it out while the rest of the team scrambles tostay out of their way? I men honestly, double mightly blow is a pretty big boost. Considering that Claws was seen as too powerful and what was done to that in the upcoming LRB5, I don't think your ide has much chance of getting off the ground.

Pink Horror came out with an idea a while ago using a number for size, 1 for stunties, 2 for general human size (includes dwarf), and 3 for BGs. The difference in the size rating would be the extra damagae done for difference in mass, etc, and would be added to the injury roll (obviously someone with a smaller size hitting someone with larger size would have difference subtracted from injury roll).

Fairly simple idea and comes close to what you are trying to achieve (I think).
