New team idea based on new miniatures range

Post by TalonBay »

A friend is putting together a new fantasy line of miniatures and was asking if I had any thoughts on how they'd transfer to the BB game, with a view to potentially designing some figures.

The race is a savage orc-like creature, names of positions in as placeholders currently.

Anyway, my first thoughts were something like this:

Code: Select all

0-2 blitzers - 7 3 3 8, Block, Piling On General, Strength
0-4 blockers - 5 4 2 8, Mighty Blow General, Strength
0-2 runners - 7 3 4 7, Dodge, Side-step, Sprint General, Agility
0-2 savages - 7 3 2 7, Dauntless, Frenzy, Claws Strength
0-8 linemen - 6 3 2 8, General, Strength
Re-rolls @ 70K
Ethos:

It's all about fast and rough play, there's no organised passing game, the runners are quick, agile and hard to hold onto, the blockers are hard hitting smash-mouth players and the blitzers are skilled and punishing. The savages are fearless, reckless and lethal.

Some big Pros:

Hard hitting team, plenty of help getting opposition down.
Good ball carriers.
Controllable strength players.
Lunatics to take on big guys.

Some big Cons:

Minimal passing game.
Savages and runners are fragile.
Low armour for a bashy team, they'll cause casualties and take them too.
Only a few players can really carry the ball.

Thoughts:

Strikes me that the team would suit an aggressive, in-your-face coach who wants to smash through the front line and have the runners dodge past for the score. It's quite one-dimensional though, and if you can shut down the running game then it's vulnerable to being hit back.

What do people think? I've not playtested it yet, just wanted to throw the idea out there early. It may be too powerful, I understand that's a common tendancy with new teams early on.

Cheers,
Gary

Wow Talon ... that team breaks a lot of the team building guidelines for new teams.

and

Which is my way of saying ... that its too good in a lot of ways.

You could say the team is a stereotype of this phenomenon :D Don't worry though, just let some skilled buddy play that team against you a few times, and you'll see what the problems are.

well if there is a "golden rule" to team building, it's this:

you can't have st4 and ag4 on the same starting roster. this has that.

back to the drawing board.

Thanks for the comments, I did suspect it would be too good, could be that allowing the options for players to develop in those directions is what is needed.

Didn't strike me it was too ridiculus, given that there are better players out there along the lines of each position (except perhaps the blitzers with piling on). It was designed along the lines of what would be a really agressive team so alltogether I can see it being too much.

But thanks for the links, some worthwhile reading in there.

Cheers,
Gary.

No Ken that Guideline is very much still in effect. Look how massively horrible Blood Lust had to be to balance the darn team out because they broke that guideline.

yeah. understood but there is a player with it....to make it work a new rule had to be made. Not that I have anything against the Vampire team cuz I like the way it plays.

My point is that they are just guidelines and that this team will never be made official and it's more for his own league house-rulez than anything so make it how you feel. After he plays it in his league, they'll have feelings about it and adjust it accordingly.

I agree with the rest of the comments here, that this team is overpowered. No team should be good at everything, but this team comes pretty close. Here's an attempt at some constructive criticism:

It is VERY hard hitting from start. Way more armor/injury modifying skills than any other team.
It's quite fast. (avg. MA>6)
It has access to two AG4 and four ST4 players.
The linemen have access to strength
The armor isn't that low. Only four players with AV7.

Its pros are IMHO much bigger than its cons.

I would remove some of the armor modifying skills, and reduce the runners' agility to 3.

That's an über-team, no less.

Too much starting skills combined with very high stats. Ag4 and St4 players in same team. 2 kind of blitzers plus blocker. Too much Strength access. Lineman should be 0-16. Dauntless, Frenzy & claws....Jesus....No positionnal with thoses stats would start under 100k a piece.

puuh, this is a very good team at the beginning and in longer terms. just take a look at the costst of all the players:

Blitzers: HU-Blitzer with an unique strong additional starting skill: 110k+
Blockers: near to a Black Orc, the only ST4 player starting with mighthy blow: 100k+
Runners: Woodelf-Lineman with three skills: 110k+
Savages: Skaven-LIneman minus 1AG plus 2 skills and 1 mutation: 100k
Lineman: Zombie plus 2 MA: 50k

wow, what an expensive team. with coach has the money for this team?
