Got a great idea and/or proposal for BloodBowl?

Blood Puck?

Post by MattShepherd »

EDIT: Never mind, I'll check this out first...

viewtopic.php?t=15325&highlight=hockey

Now that the NHL is back in session, I've been idly thinking about a Ice Bowl or Blood Puck or ... something ... that does Blood Bowl ON ICE.

There's all the bashing, all the fighting (plus brawls), all the ballhandling stuff. The main difference between the two sports in a 'port sense is that in hockey, things tend to slide a lot more when you screw up.

So...

Some sort of "stopping problem" if you go your max move... like if you GFI and fall, you slide 1d3 prone in a random direction, or AG rolls to see if you can stay in control on the ice.

Missed "catches" result in the puck moving further down the ice.

No pushing into the crowd, but you bounce off the boards a lot.

Anyone ever taken this on? What was it like?

It has been "done."

I think it was called "Cross check." ???

I can't recall where I found the link though. I'm certain I still have a printed version of the rules / skills... but I don't know where either.

I thought they were "decent" of "ok" but not great. Definately some room for improvement.

Try a google search for "Cross check ? or BB and hockey ?

(I'm stuck at work at the moment.)

Make that version 3.0 (could also number that by the LRB version it is based on)

2.0 is the latest version at http://www-personal.umich.edu/~jklewis/bloodice/, which is quite out dated.

Our league has been playtesting the CC 2.0 rules, and have added a bunch of house rules. Plays pretty well, despite everything. Good to see neoliminal is still working on it! We corresponded by e-mail not too long ago and he assured me the new version will be completed! Now as to WHEN, well, it'll be as soon as he can devote time to it, as I understand (damn real life anyway). I know I can't wait!

Cross Check 3.0

I do hope goalies won't be limited to a trapezoid in CC. Just make them fair game, more CC/BB esque anyway. Or no goalie at all and it can be a game close to shinny trying to score into a garbage can.

There is a rule in neoliminal's rules already, stating that it's a penalty to clobber the goalie in his crease, but anywhere outside the crease (3 squares wide X 2 squares out from goal) he IS fair game.

Just as an aside, the NHL should change that trapezoid behind the net from a "goalie zone" to a "no stopping zone." What that means is, any defensive player with the puck may not stop moving for more than 2 seconds behind the net, UNLESS he is being checked by an opponent (that is, the opponent isn't just standing there waiting for the player to come out). If the defenceman keeps moving, the play keeps moving. Simple as that.

Hate to bring up a dead thread, but, as the playoffs are starting, I got to thinking about Cross Check and I have to wonder:

Any status on the rules? Are they written but unplaytested, unwritten, needing revision? Will they be around soon or will we be looking at another hockey season before then?

Why? It's in this thread where Neo talked about working on it, the other thread has nothing.

And hating to be repetitive but Neo, any news?

RED ICE

Cross Check is a good name, but I think this keeps in line with the BLOOD BOWL world. Just my opinion,

In case someone needs an explaination; Red Ice means blood on the ice rink (duh)- we used to have a section of fans at the Omaha Lancer games called the Red Ice Rooters.

Red Ice Rooters, eh? Are they still there now that Omaha has the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights AHL team?
