new strength skill : Sideswipe

Sideswipe -
A player with this skill is quite skilled at throwing blocks at just the right angle. To represent this, he may choose to move the defending player to any adjacent square, not just the three squares shown on the Push Back diagram. The player may only use this skill to push another player into an unoccupied square. If the defending player has the sidestep skill, neither skill has any effect, and the standard pushback rules apply. Note that the coach may choose which square the player is moved to even if the defending player is knocked over after the push back.

Am I the only one to find this one really cool, offering many new possibilities and at first glance not overpowered?
The interaction with Stand Firm is still to be specified...(same as Sidestep : standard pushback?)
A skill I'd love to see in the official rules....

This has received a lot of positive comments and been posted two or three times already.
I really like it but I don't think the BBRC are in an adding skills mood yet, maybe Galak will persuade them to try a few experimental ones.
With the advent of traits in the LRB I think BB could use a few new (balanced) skills.

I have a problem with rules that trump other rules. Sure Hands and tackle are pretty specific and simple to rule on. This is a skill that has a positive effect, plus can negate 1 or 2 skills. If it stopped at throw the guy in any square, but the other skills are unaffected I'd say OK, otherwise no.

I don't see your problem sixpack.
The only skill this should affect should be sidestep, and its as easy to say Sidestep neutralises sideswipe as the other way around.
Stand firm means no push back means no effect from this skill.
Its a good skill. Should be experimentalled.

I just don't want to see it affect Stand Firm. I have no problem with playtesting it the way you put it. By giving 3 or 4 different effects to a rule sets us down a dangerous path.

This is definitely one of the skills that should be made experimental. Simple and balanced.

I agree that this skill has alot of potential.
Have you thought about making it so it instead alows you to push players to any square except twoards the blocker?
like this:
PPP
PXP
NBN
X = blocked player
B = blocking player
P = alowed pushback
N = disalowed pushback
I think this would make more sence... but it would make teh skill slightly less usefull.

I disagree. Should be handled like Strip Ball / Sure Hands IMHO:
Side Step and Stand Firm negate the skill entirely.
In that case it would be a good complement to the skill system.

good skill...sidestep should result in a standard push back, IMO....and stand firm would not be effected at all....beyond that, same rules as sidestep, only offensive....great for sending guys crowd surfing from unlikely angles

I don't like the phrasing of that last line. That could be a concern. The way the rules read, you would have to surround the player like a sidestep player in order to pitch them into a crowd.

No you wouldn´t. You don´t have to use a skill, so you could say, that you simple aren´t using it and voilá: no square left.

As far as I can tell it is not good for sending players into the crowd at funny angles, because:
Either you use the skill, in which case all possible squares have to be occupied (sidelines count as occupied),
or you don't use the skill, in which case "funny angles" is out of the question.
