Valkyries - Rules

Post by GenoNBBL »

Hi guys,

I'm soon to host the BBQ Bowl this summer (a tourney for the local people in the NBBL) and as the main prize I want to give away a Valkyrie team.

The mini's will be bought from Phil (obviously) but I wanted to know the following:

1) What mini's do you use to represent what positions?

2) Are there any rules for them as a team?

Cheers

You can find the rules for the Valkyrie team (unofficial of course) in the House-Rulez Magazine #2. The one thing not mentioned was the cost of rerolls, but I believe it was 50k. Please correct me if I am wrong. As far as positions go, McDeth may be able to answer that best as he has already painted his up (nicely too). Hope that helps!

Valkyrie teamlist:
0-12 Valkyrie Lineman (50k) 6 3 3 7 Block (G)
0-2 Valkyrie Thrower (60k) 6 3 3 7 Dump Off, Pass (G, P)
0-2 Valkyrie Catcher (80k) 6 3 3 7 Stand Firm, Catch (G,A)
0-4 Valkyrie Blitzer (100k) 6 3 3 7 Guard, Jump Up, War Cry (G, S)

Rerolls 50k

WAR CRY: The player has a powerful set of lungs that she
occasionally sets loose in a devastatingly feral roar.
Use this skill instead of making a Block (if the player
wants to use War Cry as part of the team’s blitz action,
the War Cry must be used before the player has moved
for the turn). All players (opponents and team-mates alike)
in this player’s Tackle Zone lose their tackle zones and may
not perform any actions until the beginning of their team’s next
turn, as they’re too busy covering their ears to impede
any opponents! Only one player from the Valkyrie team may use
War Cry each turn.

Okay on to the minis at http://www.phigsminiatures.com at least how I use them

Frieda = Blitzer
Image
Agnetha=Linewoman
Image
Hilda=Catcher
Image
Inga=Thrower

You could disagree but its how I saw the team.

Footnote: Version 2.2 Beta of the PBeM Tool will have the War Cry skill programmed in as a right click player skill option.

if you use the trully sublime painted base-rings, you can mix them up however you want, and/or make things very easy on your oponents... we should all use colored base rings, it makes women like you and your hair grow back...

I'm adding the Valkyrie team to the MBBL2 for season 3. Barring a major brainstorm that really appeals to me. It will be the only addition. I like the team, I like the concept, they look fun to play, I'm not convinced that they are better than the Norse team that they are modeled after, McDeth's pictures look great, and I've already programmed in War Cry.

Cheers for the info guys, I'm going to give this team as the prize for the NBBL BBQ Bowl :D

Now to decide on a colour scheme (the prize is going to be a PAINTED team)

Opinions anyone?

Alternatively use them as either Norse or Amazons.

Colours? try a deep blue offset with silver? maybe to stereotypical norse.

You could paint them to be compatible with my team and say they're Santa's little helpers :) (see the painting contest thread if you don't understand that gag.)

One thing - how often do you see people use Yellow as their base colour?
Yellow with blue and silver is a little Reavers-ish, but it could work. With all the skins and furs on the figs too.

About positions: I think I will use these positions, even if it would need some conversions:

Frieda and Agnetha: linewomen
Hielda: catcher
Hinga: blitzer

and add to this team 2 throwers from Norsemen (those ones without beards ;) ), and add with milliput, erm... specific women forms (under a tee-shirt :oops: :lol: :lol: ). It will be my first conversion job over removing weapons, to be true ;)

But it's a personal point of view... I think this team is made to be personified (no fated positions, ...). Maybe some one, who ever he is, should give us his point of view ?

About valkyries rules: the roster seems OK, but as for the amazons, no big guys allowed ?

About colour scheme: I would use a cleared blue, white and silver... if I didn't have start to paint my norsemen like that... But that's true this colours (grey/blue/silver/white), very "norsy", seems OK with these minis.

well, dfc, if that phil guy were around to go on and on and on and on and on (as is his custom) about why he sculpted these girls the way he did, he'd say something like:

"well kids, i wasn't making those miniatures for [insert name of game discussed here which he is most definitely not making miniatures for, but you folks persist in buying them for anyway], and as such, i didn't have any positional posings in mind (well, not athletic anyway, good thing they're modelled after teh wife or i could get in trouble for that admission), they're for a game that really doesn't have positions, or at least it doesn't at the moment, so i felt no inclination to place them in action poses suggesting a role on the field... instead, i posed them in what seemed to be the most natural fashion for the subject matter, beating the snot out of people... far more natural, don't you think? further, since phil is a big proponent of a universal system for designating the position of players in [the afore unmentioned game], he doesn't need them to be posed in any specific manner even if he were to use these figures for [again with that game], and thinks everyone else needs to come to their damn senses and paint the base-rings too so he doesn't have to ask what the guy with the big dumb spike on his head is every frigg'in turn!"

he's a real dork, phil is...

but, all that aside, i hear he's working on another team for that hopeless elfball game of his and they might just be posed a little more funtionally than artistically this time... but only just barely, and only because it more or less suits the subject matter...

...stupid artists, they just can't do things so they're useful, they have to go and be all aesthetic and crap...

...that guy really p :pissed: sses me off sometimes...

:P

oh, and if he ever gets around to finishing them, the painted examples for his webpage are wearing a grey and red jersey with gold helmets and metal bits... quite striking...

Hi Lucien,

I hope you will survive to the phil neighbourood... Unless that, I'm sure in a few months you would be involved in some crazy projects !

Well interesting... Something with a lot of claws and coats ? A perfect complement to Khemri, maybe...

I heard a few months ago on some other websites he planned to make some weird teams, like "wee folk", and other stuff... Some news about it ?

I hope you will convince him to put these on his websites when finished... Many thanks for the informations !

naaa.... pansy little waifs with pointy ears and pretty little bows on their kit... his such-and-such game is called "elfball" afterall, i guess he figured he hadda justify the name before making that silly company of his a bit more visible.... still, from what i've seen of the sculpts, which he's doing very slowly and meticulously, they are really really smok'in pansy little waifs with pointy ears and pretty little bows on their kit... he's almost proud of them...

i dunno, that's all galak's mission, if you want phil to make that weird stuff, you'll have to get enough interested parties to make the effort worth doing.... and then get some of them to actually come through for him so his spare bedroom stops sinking under the weight of unbought metal...

and if you really wanted to see him release stuff more regularly, you'd break his playstation2... lazy b :lol: stard just sits around playing video games all night...

we all have hobbies, his is fifa 2002....

i went and asked him about pro evo, and he says he's been trying to find a copy in his local stores for ages and it seems none made it to this market... and he's a bit cheap, and therefore unlikely to pony up the dough for a copy off ebay or some distant mail order house... but he has heard it's the best soccer game out there, and he's prolly going to brush the dust off his wallet when the new version makes it over from japan, even if west ham isn't one of teh clubs included in teh game...

oh, and just to stay on topic and avoid accusations of wasting everyone's time, i think bloodbowl is great!
