Got a great idea and/or proposal for BloodBowl?

Galak's roster can be found here.

Interestingly, another coach in this league started a Vampire team with no vamps at all, just thralls and 6 re-rolls. :o They won their first three games IIRC, but have started losing only after some vamps joined the team.

Par for course that. It's all about the Thralls! ;)

Go, go, faux Hobgoblin team!

Edit: More seriously I think 1 Vampire, 10-11 Thralls and lots of rerolls is probably the best way to start a Vampire team. You just keep the Vampire on the bench for as long as possible. :P

...damnit I ment to be more serious then...

Yes the team I'm playing right now is an experienced team ... but it had to build up under basically the same rules.

It started pretty much the way I would start ... and I have little doubt in my abilities if I started from scratch. Playing Vampires is all about knowing what risks to take and when and thinking 1 or 2 turns ahead to have your Thralls where you need them. Need to blitz a guy out of the way ... run a thrall up and then blitz with the Vampire ... if you fail the Blood Lust roll ... run up and Gaze the guy removing his TZ that was in the way and then bite the Thrall ... end result ... same basic effect.

Vampires are not a bad team ... it is just the most demanding team in Blood Bowl for pre-planning and risk analysis and mitigation. IE ... its a perfect team for an advanced coach to play as a challenge.

Well we have a Vampire Coach trying for the top spot in the ECBBL!!

Luke (bliztzwing) is a very, very good coach. He has won more than one tournament ( 8) ) and I am always 'concerned' when I learn we are to play each other. He is in the quarter-finals of our league. No mean feat. To get their he had to be in the top four of his ten-man devision. He won 4, drew 3 and lost 3. We are not using any special Vamp rules, just LRB. He is (again) a favourite for the finals. (Yes he is pretty damn good  :P ).

Check out his record here:

He played Humans (mine  )
Lizardmen
Chaos Dwarfs
Chaos
Undead
Humans (again)
Dwarves
Orcs
Pro-Elves
Wood Elves
Khemri
Dark Elves

My point is not to ostracise Luke (sorry mate, this thread just inspired me to day sometihng) but to point out that the Vamp team is pretty fine as it is. Not to say that it doesn't need tweaks, just to say that played well, in a fair league by a good coach, they can still come out on top with a good chance of winning.

I think people need to give things a lot more time before crying 'broken'.

In preparation for the DO I have been practicing with my new Vamp team with interesting results. These results have been with a TR110 team with 0, 1 or more skills (as per tournie rules). We managed 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss. The wins were reasonably comfortable wins by 1, the draws were against Glum Ellis' Undead and Looney Toadquack's Orcs but the loss was a 4-0 against HUMANS (the ignomy of it!). Basically what happened was that the team exploded due to the combined attrition from both sides. As was pointed out, normally in Bloodbowl games there is only one team trying to get rid of your players.

Two of the most frustrating things for me were related to Bloodlust/OFAB. Firstly that the roll of a 1 changes your action to a Move. I would probably drop this in favour of just having to end next to a thrall and bite them (it's harsh enough that you have to attack your own team anyway). Secondly I would also consider the possibility of making an armour roll first (or saying auto Stun). After all the thralls are wearing at least a semblance of it. With the thralls being so key to the actual play of the team (vamp rolls a 1 he has to find a thrall to bite or leaves the pitch AND it's a Turn Over) then I think that it's harsh enough already from the oppo taking them out without the vamps getting free injuries on them.

The team itself plays in a very interesting and unique way, but the real chore for me was having to free up thralls (aka "Munch Biscuits") to move them first to where I wanted to have the vampires end up BEFORE activating the vamps (in order to mitigate the effects of BL/OFAB as best I could). This made for a very strange style of play.

I like the team as it is. But I would just like a bit more flavor. I think that ghouls would be a "fluff-wise" appropriate addition to a vamp team and, I think, would add to the team tactically.

I like the thoughts about "lesser" and "greater" vamps.

Why not:

0-1 Lord 6/4/4/8 HG,Regen and NO BL!
0-5 Lesser Vamps 6/3/4/8 HG,Regen,BL
0-2 Ghouls
0-12 Thralls

I think that would represent the Lord leading his/her flock of Lesser Vampires, the eaters of the dead, and the human followers in a more "realistic?" way. :P
