Why do the stunty teams have to suck?

Got a great idea and/or proposal for BloodBowl?

Toby ... I'm not going down this road with you about your incorrect belief that BloodBowl isn't big.

The UK tournament sold 200 40 BPS slots in 5 hours. A year ago you said on TBB that if Blood Bowl didn't do all things you want it would die in the near future. I think I'm winning this bet. Its growing rapidly, not dying. Sorry. And as for StarCraft ... I think you should have realized by now that no one here cares one fig about StarCraft ... I'm not started that conversation again.

Well if he can't make Paris there are open tournaments in Finland, Australia, United Kingdom, Sweden, Spain, United States and Canada over the next 6 months.

As for the "my game is more popular than your game," that's just a childish argument. No one cares. I play BB because I like it, not because it is popular.

Toby -
FUMBBL. Java version of Blood Bowl. Takes a bit over an hour to play a game.
I will happily pit a 100TRR dwarf team against ANYTHING you choose - LRB rules - and kick your arrogant little arse all over the astrogranite doing so.

(or go to Paris - I was there a few months back and DESPERATELY want to go back. Shame I can't afford to go to the Rendez-vous.)

And before you came along I had never even HEARD of Starcraft.

Is this supposed to be a challenge?

You two (three, four ?) should discuss this subject with the help of some iron bars, lead pipes, chains, etc.
:?:For an alternative (as Toby seems to live in or near Munich): if we (read: I) could organize some webcams, I could possibly provide servers and bandwidth for the first "BB live" internet event (suppose I could serve a few dozen clients). Of course more than two or three matches at once would take a bit more work.

Anyone (dum dee dum) interested?

My Proposal for Goblin Teams is:

Trolls loose "Big Guy" on Goblin Teams, Goblins get access to General Skills.
Goblin Teams get 0-4 Orc Blitzers.
Goblins Teams get 0-2 "Bombardiers" (Accurate, Passing Skills)
Goblins Teams get 0-4 "Bouncy's" (Pogo Stick)
So my gobbo team is made up of:

2 trolls
4 Orc Blitzers
2 Throwers.. sorry, " Bombardiers"
4 Bouncys(!)
4 Goblins

?

No thanks!

And what's Starcraft? Never heard of it (and I'm not joking).

Toby, why don't you save up and come to Nottingham next year. I'm sure JJ and Andy would loooove to discuss your ideas, and there'd be about 200 coaches ready to prove you wrong.

I really want to answer this before Toby, because as soon as he answers it might turn me off the game.

Starcraft is widely regarded (at least by computer geeks such as myself) as one of the best computer games ever made. It is certainly one of the most balanced games in which the 3 playable races have nothing in common. It is great fun, and if you enjoy Real time strategy games (age of empires, command and conquer, etc.) you should really try it. Even the single player campaign is fun and interesting, so you don't have to rely on multiplayer to enjoy it.

The company that created it spent a long time making patches that not only fixed bugs but also changed balance issues, so that with each patch the game got closer to perfection. And (dare I say it) I think that it is even more balanced than the races in BB, because they are not only balanced in the long term, but in the short and medium games as well.

NOW, that being said, because the game is now several years old, and it has not changed in several years, all the strategies have pretty much been thought of. It does not have a dynamic team/faction building, like BB, it is a computer game, so your race will be the same every time. (You do not have to make hard decisions like 'should I get tackle, or kick, tackle will help me against those damn elves, but I really need kick.) Since the game is old, and the units don't change, it has developed a rock-paper-scissors type multiplayer gamestyle. Your oponent does this, you do that, etc. The only thing that Being 'the best in location X' means is: That person spends way to much time practicing his mouse clicking. And does not give him any more right to discuss balance, or team changes in Blood Bowl.

Both the games have evolved over massive amounts of playtesting, and not just on some halfcocked whim. I am surprised that Toby would even use it as an example on this thread (and would prefer that he didn't), since I could use the exact same game to point out why all his arguments have little merit.

In my own Arrogance, I would say that I could beat Toby at Starcraft, at any time, given that it is set at the slowest setting. Make it a game of strategy and not mouseclicks and a lot of "good starcraft players" actually crumble. (The outcome of such a game would still give neither of us any more right to comment on the make up of goblin teams.)

That is just to answer Darkson's question, lets refrain from derailing the topic.

Very good reply Asperon. Now if we are talking about claims to fame Toby, I came 2nd and was unbeaten in the LOTR UK Grand Tournament, which arguably makes me the 2nd best player in the UK :)
But realistically, I have to face facts and realise that there was only 16 people, I was never badly unlucky, and it is in fact a DIFFERENT GAME. There is a fair chance I might show up at a bloodbowl tournament in about a years time, i.e when I feel I can play competitively, and know every rule perfectly. So, what happens again when someone can't setup 3 players on the LoS? ;)

Hi all,

Galak, you were probably pushing the truth more than a little when you initially said that Toby's statement represented about 1% of us.

The poll in the LegUp thread is currently 56% "funny that they suck" and 44% for some kind of help.

Martin :)

It's good that the stunties suck so badly. It builds character.

You misquote me good sir. Toby's intention is that Flings and Goblins be equals with humans and orcs and everyone else.

Even I voted for "some kind of help" ... which I am pleased to see has happened in the MBBL with BBRC rules for free Master Chefs and free weapons for Goblins.

There is a MASSIVE difference between leg up and equal. I very much stand behind the basis of my statement that only 1% of BBers would want Halflings and Goblins to be EQUALS with the other races.

Ya took my quote out of context Martin .. not fair.
