just about to start a new league with pbbl 1.11 and we are considering a semi-random way of distributing mvp's. the idea is that you nominate 2 of your own team, and your opponent nominates 1 (of your team) and then you randomise between these players with a d3 roll to see who gets awarded the mvp. this way you can use the mvp to actually recognise significant contributions to a game. the opponents nomination is to make sure you dont deliberately not nominate a player who had a significant impact because you didnt want them getting the mvp. it might encourage people to do extreme manouvers and stuff with lineman to try to get them up for nomination!
i also think it could be an idea to make the number of players eligible up to six by including the three players with the least spp's on the team and randomising with a d6 roll instead.
any thoughts or ideas? does it sound like this could work?
semi-random mvp's

In an old league I played under the 3rd edition rules we tried out this system. One of the weaknesses is that most of the time the players that get the SSP any way will get one MVP after an other. The system is fairer for the player but I think the fans vote the MVP. S
ometimes I think the fans like it when a player is sitting the whole game in KO box and wave to the fans.
So I would not use this system again. You get a few very good developed players but most of your lineman will not get that much skills...

Tom.
The 3rd ed league I learned in, used a similar system. The coach nominated all 3 instead of your guys having the opponent's choice.
I personally thought it worked well. It is a little helpfull to the bashy teams - especialy the bashy players like Black Orcs who don't always earn those first spp very quickly. But not as much as out right giving the MVP directly to a player. (Choose MVP proper.)
I think this actually might "hurt" bashy teams too in the fact that thier TV will go up quicker with the addition of more skills on thier players. (Yes they get skilled too, but the TR value was 10k for the first skill and in PBBL it is 20k.) Plus your addition of the opponent's choice (if not colluded and abused) will cause un-wanted MVP loss by giving it to dead guys, or players doomed to be cut due to injuries...
I think it is a great idea (at a minimum worth a try) and would not mind hearing more how it turns out.

My friends and I tried a system of accelerated SPPs since we didn't meet very often. The way it work in the post game sequence was, when it came to giving the MVP the coach did the following:
1. Pick a player on his team to get a 2 SPP caoches award
2. Your opponent picks a player from your team for a 2 SPP "You were an annoying get!" award
3. A standard and random 5 SPP award was given to a player pick by drawing a counter as usual.
This gave us a say in how our players progressed, the opponent picked award tended to spread the points and the MVP added as usual.
Althouhg I personally am not a fan of accelerated skilling, there is something to say for being able to pick players to get point. I was playing chaos at the time and my Warriors got block sooooo fast!
We are now using PBBL 1.11 using the standard system and although progress is obviously slower, I prefer the basic system. Individual players are beginning to shine, but noone has as jet managed to create an uber team where every player has a skill, as happened in our accelerated league.

I must admit it is annoying when the MPV gets given to a player who has done nothing! I like the randomness but would like to potentially give the MPV to players who at least survives the games as giving it to a dead player sucks a lot!!
