DOCTOR SYSTEM for BB like GORKAMORKA's for fixing injury

Post by nkelsch »

I have always wondered why there has not been a medical system like GorkaMorka for BloodBowl? Many times, nigs or stat damages are a

fast-track to auto-retire and you buy a new rookie.

Well, here are some rules that a league near me used one season and it seemed pretty reasonable:

Doctors Surgery:

When a player is injured, you may pay for the best doctors around to attempt to fix his injury... Of course, this is sometimes risky

as you never know if the doctor has been bribed by another team, has a fake degree or simply dislikes your players.

COST: The cost for surgery is 1/2 your player's cost + (d6 * 10,000)

Choose a treatment (no need to roll a D6) and pay the doctor, Roll on 'THE BIG DAY' table to determine the outcome of the chosen

surgery. Follow any directions. If the team has an Apothecary, he may assist in the surgery and re-roll a SINGLE dice during the

event.

TREATMENT TABLE: (Choose a treatment, roll D6 when WHOOPS)

1: Extreme Medical Procedure: Fixes DEATH (must be used immediately after game and player must not be a zombie)
2: Reconstructive surgery: Fixes a Niggling Injury
3: Bone Reinforcement: Fixes -1AV
4: Leg surgery: Fixes -1MA
5: Physical Therapy: Fixes -1AG
6: Strength Training: Fixes -1STR
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
THE BIG DAY TABLE: (roll a D6)
1: Revolutionary new Technique: It seems your Blood Bowl player was used to test out a revolutionary new technique. The original

injury was overlooked and who knows what has happened now!!! Roll on the 'Medical Experimental' table!!!
2: The Patient is resting: The surgery went well, but the patient needs more recovery time. Roll on the SUCCESS table for the

appropriate treatment but the player will miss next game.
3: Whoops!: The wrong treatment might have been applied to your patient in a paperwork mishap. Roll a D6 on the 'TREATMENT' table

and apply the SUCCESS for that treatment.
4-6: SUCCESS!: The treatment went as planned! Roll on the SUCCESS table for the chosen treatment!
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
MEDICAL EXPERIMENT TABLE: (roll a D6)
1: We almost lost him: The player almost died and instead of fixing the chosen treatment, they needed to do an Extreme Medical

Procedure to keep him alive. Roll on the SUCCESS table for Extreme Medical Procedure.
2: Duuuuuh...: The player seems slower and spaces out once in a while due to the anesthetic used. The Player is now 'BONEHEADED'
3: Something's missing!: The doctor removed some organs the player 'really didn't need'... He is more vulnerable to injury and gains

-1AV
4: Drain Bammage!: There is something seriously wrong with the player's brain. Roll a D6, on a 1-3 he is 'REALLY STUPID' on a 4-6 he

is 'FRENZY'
5-6: Mysterious injury: The player now has a new pain he didn't have before. He gains a Niggling injury
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
SUCCESS TABLE - Extreme Medical Procedure: (roll a D6)
1: He's Dead Jim: This player is D-E-D dead! Sorry bud, it happens
2-5: Alive, barley: This player is ALIVE, but the injury takes its toll. Roll as if the player failed an aging roll
6: Touched by NUFFLE: While dead, the player met NUFFLE, the god of Bloodbowl and comes back with uncanny knowlege of Blood Bowl

tactics. In addition to being alive, roll a D6, on a 1-3 he gains PRO, on a 4-6 he gains LEADER
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
SUCCESS TABLE - Reconstructive surgery: (roll a D6)
1: Heavy Brace: While the surgery was a success, the player must wear a heavy brace to get him on the pitch, He gains -1MA but

removes his niggling injury
2-5: Full Recovery: The Player feels better!!! Remove the Niggling Injury
6: Better than new!: The player's injury was not only restored to full functionality, but feels tougher! Player gains +1AV as well

as removal of the niggling injury
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
SUCCESS TABLE - Bone Reinforcement: (roll a D6)
1: METAL Skeleton: While the surgery was a success, the player's frame was reinforced by a clunky metal bitz, Fix the -1AV but the

player gains -1AG
2-5: Full Recovery: The Player feels better!!! Remove the -1AV
6: Better than new!: The player's injury was not only restored to full functionality, but feels as light as a feather! Player gains

'SPRINT' as well as removal of the -1AV
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
SUCCESS TABLE - Leg surgery: (roll a D6)
1: Weak Knees: While the surgery was a success, the player's legs can't take much punishment, Fix the -1MV but the player gains -1AV
2-5: Full Recovery: The Player feels better!!! Remove the -1MV
6: Better than new!: The player's injury was not only restored to full functionality, but his legs have uncanny coordination! Player

gains 'KICK' as well as removal of the -1MV
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
SUCCESS TABLE - Physical Therapy: (roll a D6)
1: Muscle-mass loss: While the surgery was a success, the player's therapy neglected his strength training, Fix the -1AG but the

player gains -1ST
2-5: Full Recovery: The Player feels better!!! Remove the -1AG
6: Better than new!: The player's injury was not only restored to full functionality, but he is faster too! Player gains +1MA as

well as removal of the -1AG
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
SUCCESS TABLE - Strength Training: (roll a D6)
1: Bulky: While the surgery was a success, the player's training has left him with oversized muscles, Fix the -1ST but the player

gains -1AG
2-5: Full Recovery: The Player feels better!!! Remove the -1ST
6: Better than new!: The player's injury was not only restored to full functionality, but he is hard as a rock! Player gains +1AV as

well as removal of the -1ST

YIKES!!! Way too much dice rolling for me...and I am one who enjoys testing the luck of the roll. I have a feeling that, as good as these rules look, most players would consider it to be too complex, especially in the current "simplify to extinction" atmosphere. :-?

nice one for attempting this- but an accusation often laid at GW's door is an overdependence on chart rolling- and the GorkaMorka system had this in spades.

I like the notion of a Doctor system, I just don't think that this is the method I would consider using to implement one. Not that I can offer an alternative right now, so feel free to ignore my comments!

I tried to implement doctor in my league, however simpler than this, and it was a big mistake, as it made players retire later or not at all. It's already hard to get rid of a 140+ spp player, if ageing and injuries doesnt get him either, it,s gonna be a long and painful ride.

You roll 4-6 dice for SPP advancement, At most it is 3 dice and normally it is 2 dice. (doctor and result) If it was a 4+ on roll 1 and a 2-5 on roll 2, you succeed with no other things happening.

We found that the cost of the Doctor kept it from being used too much. Half the player cost, well a player who has 140spp and skills is going to be very expensive!!!

It was mainly good for low-level players who have gotten one good skill skill other times the player was too expensive to repair or they were a rookie anyways.
