New Skill : (man in) Motion

Post by Borg »

I'd like to have a skill where players are allowed to move AFTER set-up but right BEFORE kick-off.

So, the game would go like this :
- Kicking Team Sets up
- Receiving Team sets up
- Players with the Motion-skill on the Kicking Team get activated
- Players with the Motion-Skill on the Receiving Team get activated
- kick-off.........

This Motion-skill would be a MOVE ACTION ignoring tackle zones.
Players cannot cross the LOS and must still comply with the set-up rules (at least 3 people on the LOS for the defense and no more than 2 players in the wide zones)

I think this ability would add some great strategy to the game , especially on defense, which is already on a disadvantage from having to set up first, when you can suddenly shift a player to a whole new postion.

The definition would be something like this :

Motion :
After the Kicking and Receiving Team have been set up, but before kick-off, this player is allowed to make a Move Action.

Ignore Tackle Zones for this Action. The player may not cross the line of Scrimmage.

(Order : First activate all Motion Players on the Kicking Team, then activate all Motion Players on the receiving Team)

good idea, especially considering defence is at a disadvantage. Agility skill? Or general?

Great skill, but for simplicity I would allow its use to a maximum of one player per team (so, multiple players can have it, but only one at a time ignores his coach orders), and only to players not in the LOS (so, players in enemy tackle zones in the wide zones could still use it). For category, Passing (you must be able to think about the whole game, and the skill must be rare).

I was thinking along these lines...

Since this is a skill which can only be used at very specific moments, during kick-off - maybe only twice in a game (at both kick-offs) it is vital that we allow ALL players with this skill to use it - they have invested SPP's in it anyway - EVEN players on the LOS.

Category : general IMO as this is a skill which has nothing to do with agility, strength or passing but with intellect.

basically this would be like a team "shifting formation" just before the snap.
This skill could really add something to the tactical/strategic part of the game IMO.

I'm thinking about simplicity 'cause if both teams present loads of this skill (and if I could take it as General I would take it on many players), then the kick off would become long to start, to say the least. Personally, I'm a quick player, so no problems from me, but many of my opponents are slow, so maybe if you use this skill with multiple players you can wish to set a time limit for each team to reposition players. If this is the case, I agree with you.

If I were king of the forest, I’d be tempted to go with a player skill with the same placing restrictions as Kick (not offside, not on the LOS) that can “yell one commandâ€

We used to use this as part of the normal kick off proceedure, one player on defense makes a free move, then one player on offense can attempt to react. To do this they make an AG roll, if successful they are free to move, if unsuccessful proceed as normal.

it brought an interested aspect to the play.

IMO for the description posted it should be a General Skill, but only one player can utilise it. Its one of those skills like pass block or diving tackle - really useful but not a 1st or 2nd choice so would not be that prolific.

I must admit I like both versions offered, the 'any player not on the LOS' and also the 'line shift' version for one player on the LOS, although I would probally limit the number of squares that the player was able to shift to say 2 or 3 at most. And also any negatraits should have to be tested for and if failed it is wasted.
