Looking through my old 2nd edition BB companion I came across the "Official NAF rules", the one based on American Football (4 downs in a drive, extra point, out of bounds, that sort of thing). Did anyone ever play this version, was it any good?
More to the point, has anyone tried to convert it to the current version? I could see it would be difficult as 2nd ed was played to 1st to 3 TD's, while 3rd ed is fixed length, but has anyone atempted it?

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

I tried them some time ago, they were fun, but had a few flaws, for example the fact that the defence had once per drive a "blitz" in wich they could move before the offense. This resulted invariably in the snapper losing control of the ball and a turnover. I toyed with the idea to translate them to 3rd edition, but then lost interest.

IMO, there are several things that would need to change to make a more NFL version of the game.
1. The Game Board would need to change. Either by adding markers for distance, in essence making the current board a view of a larger field, or by making an actual larger field.
2. Add a Tackle action, which would allow you to take down the ball handler on -> pushback results. Blocking would remain standard, but it has to be easier to take down the ball carrier. (It's hard enough now that people actually score.
3. Add playbooks. Some way to making down resolution faster, perhaps allowing for batch blocking on the linemen or ignore certain players for the play.
