IMHO normal longbeards need to lose tackle in place of something else... as it causes problems in early game play against zons and stunties...

i've had a few different ideas in my head

stand firm
av 10
thick skull working on a 3+
-10k
maybe a new skill that gives ya a -1 or -2 on secret weapons (they hide them in their beards, and yes they can pull a death roller out of them :D )

the +ma is an idea...

oh yeah... also toyed with the idea of horns on troll slayers for 10k extra

(all this includes loss of ogre)

Nah, I think DW has more of a 'Zon thing going ;)

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

There's nothing wrong with having pointy ears and being a great big jessie of a girl's blouse. Leave the elf-lover alone!

When sugesting alternatives please remember that the aim is a roster based on the SECOND EDITION team. Any other variations instantly disqualified.

Would you mind detailing this 2e team for us then? Personally I don't think it is best to be blinded by nostalgia with regard to this pro dwarf team. Better to have something that plays well in 3e terms.

So far

Code: Select all

0-12 Linemen 60K 5 3 2 9 Block, Thick Skull {GS}
seems to do the job in most respects. I don't like the MV 3, AG 1 or AV 10 on your original team Thad. Breaks too many rules. You can have a similar player without doing that. If the pros are meant to be faster, why include a MV 3 player? Slower than anything on the existing dwarf roster. My vote still goes for 4 3 2 9 with Stand Firm. I'd also much prefer Nerves of Steel on the blitzers, rather than Sure Hands. NoS is very dwarfish IMO.

The 2nd ed Dwarf team:
(discounting kickers)

Blitzer 3/+3/4/3/-1/+1/10
Blocker 3/+1/5/2/-1/-1/10
Lineman 3/+2/4/2/-1/-1/10
Thrower 3/+2/3/3/+1/0/9

4 Blitzers (up to two subbed for throwers), 6 Blockers, 6 Linemen.

That was the aim of this team...similar to the current team , a little faster on average, but not quite as good at ball handling, with better pummelling.

I'm not saying they're bad ideas, but 6 guys all with dump off isn't Dwarfs to me. You want that then use the rosters from the WESL article in the annual, or a new thread. Even better, we did a roster AGES ago based on Dump off as a core skill - the Albion team.

Ach, nice to see that one referenced. I still think the final roster posted there is a very worthwhile roster to consider for any league open to house rules.

I think Thadrin's 2nd roster was the best. I'd love to see that go experimental so the BB world could see it. :)

I'm pretty sure the second edition dwarf blockers weren't str 5, if my memory serves me correct (and it might not) all the blitzers and blockers in 2nd edition had the same strength, the blitzers also had better catching, tackiling (agility?) and movement - they truely were stars of the game.

Some people (who never played it) probably don't realise that the scale for ST was different in 2ed, went up to 8 (treemen, Ramtut III), for example rookie ogres had ST6. This made more of a range for each race, dwarf 3-5, human 2-4, etc.

I've toyed with runners as linemen (as well as longbeards)
5 3 3 8 Sure hands, Sure feet, thick skull. General skills only 70K

I don't have to be faster than the Ogre, just faster than you!
