The Albion Team

Post by Mestari »

As new team concepts are flying through the air, I would again like to present the team developed during this thread, the Albion team.

The team concept was loosely based on rugby, but the main idea was to create a human team that has a definitely different playing style compared to the other teams.
The point is that 1:1 translation of rugby might not be as good a blood bowl concept as a one that is developed based on rugby, but with the intention of creating an unique blood bowl team.

The team has
Forwards - the stars of the team. Playing the roles of both blitzer and catcher, their effective use is imperative for the teams success. Stand Firm, block and agility skill access represent their ability to stay upright while going through the tightest of defences, while NoS makes the dump-off game at AG3 possible.

Backs - Ballhandlers and runners. They are the guys that run around with the ball up to the point when going gets rough - then they'll be throwing the ball to the forwards or some other back with Dump off and Pass. If kicking rules are used, they have access to kicking skills.

Linemen - The basic player of the team has Dump Off and thus has the ability to function as an auxiliary back if they are not available.

Code: Select all

Albion team
0-4  Forward        7 3 3 8  SFirm,NoS,Block     Gen,Ag 110k
0-4  Backs           7 3 3 7  Pass,DOff               Gen,(Kick)  80k
0-12 Linemen       6 3 3 8   DOff                      Gen      60k
RR:50k
In my humble opinion, this team has an interesting concept and is definitely an unique team. Also, it definitely lies in the balanced range - even though the forwards are very potent players, and the team definitely is worthwhile to play with, it isn't the best team out there either.

Surely following the fluff the team should be kicking the ball? :)

But Chris, the point is not to follow it so exactly! I'm aiming for an interesting, playable team for blood bowl, not a cumbersome 1:1 translation of rugby with tons of new skills and special rules to fit the team into the fluff.

There was the "Brettonian" team I suggested

Code: Select all

0-12 Linemen  6 3 3 8                      50k  General
0-2  Throwers 6 3 3 8 Sure Hands, Dump Off 70k  General Passing
0-4  Catchers 8 2 3 7 Catch, Dump Off      70k  General Agility
0-4  Blitzers 7 3 3 8 Block, Dump Off      100k General Strength
A very similar concept - it does look like there is a gap in the market.

Played a test game with the following roster:

Code: Select all

Albion Team

7 Linemen    60k 5 3 2 9 Stand Firm {GS}
2  Backs      70k 7 3 3 7 Catch {GA}
1  Scrum Half 90k 6 3 3 8 Sure Hands, NoS, Dump Off {G}
1  Fly Half   90k 6 3 4 8 Kick, Dump Off {GA}

3 Rerolls @ 60k
Linemen and Fly Half were too good, the rest felt right. An AV 9 + Stand Firm is too powerful, and not really "human" in character. I've revised to:

Code: Select all

0-12 Linemen    60k 5 3 2 8 Stand Firm {GS}
0-4  Backs      70k 7 3 3 7 Catch {GA}
0-2  Half Backs 90k 6 3 3 8 Sure Hands, NoS, Dump Off {G}

Rerolls 60k
though I am tempted to include a Fly Half along the lines of:

Code: Select all

0-1  Fly Half   90k 6 3 3 8 Kick, Hail Mary Pass, Dump Off {GA}
