Gambling on games

Post by Shadow Monkey »

I've been implementing a fairly simple way to allow gambling on games played.

The Basics

1: You can't bet more gc on a game than the gate. (i'e' if the roll for the gate is 32,000, you can't bet more than 32,000 on the game)

2: You can't bet on a game you are playing.

3: Odds are based on the Handicap Table.

TR Difference = Odds
0 - 10 = 1:1
11 - 25 = 2:1
26 - 50 = 3:1
51 - 75 = 4:1
76 - 100 = 5:1
100+ = 6:1

Extra Rules

Players can pay a team off to throw a game. The amount is entirely up to the team being paid off. However, after the game is finished, the team throwing the game must roll a d6. On a roll of 1, the crowd realizes the team has taken a dive. Angry gamblers attack the team. Roll on the Injury Table for each of your players and coaching staff.

Also if you roll a 1, your team suffers the same penalties as a team that concedes a match. Your opponent gets your winnings and your MVP, and may add +2 to his Fan Factor Roll. You automatically lose 1 Fan Factor and may not roll for a new one. Any players on your team with 51 or more SPP will leave your team on a d6 roll of 1-3. Roll seperately for each player.

Needless to say, taking a dive is very risky. Anybody who wishes to do so should charge an extremely high amount of money to do so.

But why would anyone take that risk (except gobbo or halfer teams)? No amount of gold pieces is worth that kind of risk IMHO.

It may not be worth it, but you'd be surprised how many people might be willing to take that risk for a lot of money. That's sorta the point of placing that rule in there. If the risk wasn't there, people would do it all the time if they were concerned more about the money than their standing in the league.

Have you seen the TBBF gambling rules?
Our league uses them and everyone seems to like it, it also alows for you to bet on your own game with possible consequences.

It may be more fun, but if you could, you could just bet on your opponent and play badly. Since there's no real way to tell if a coach is intentionally playing badly, the penalties for throwing a game wouldn't really count. However, if someone pays you to throw a game, then the commissioner would have to know about it, cuz the coach would have to explain where the money came from.

No I haven't. Could you provide a link?

must admit betting very much part of pro sport but I would image hard with unfair players. Too easy for them to do a deal a bend the system. Like the idea from the PDF
