Bribing the Ref

Here's something else I've been using in my league.

Bribing the ref can be done in two ways.

1: It can be done in the Pre-Match Sequence during the Hire Freebooters, Wizards, and Star Players phase. It costs 10k for each call you wish the ref to ignore. (i.e. If you pay the ref 50k, the ref can catch you fouling or using secret weapons 5 times without being sent off the field). However, since you're paying the ref before the game even begins, he knows you're up to something, so he will have his eye on you from the beginning of the game. He wants you to get your money's worth after all. Your opponent gains a +2 bonus when rolling for the ref.

2: You can bribe the ref during the game as well. Whenever a player from your team gets caught fouling, your coach can argue with the ref. Normally, you would need to roll a 6 on a d6 to get the call reversed. If you fail this roll, you may grease the ref's palm with some money. The cost is equal to the difference between your roll, and the roll needed multiplied by 10k. (i.e. If you roll a 3 to argue the call, it will cost you 30k to get the call reversed. 30k gives you a +3 bonus to argue. 3 + 3 = 6)

Looks like an excellent way for high TR teams to both shed TR and gain more advantage.

I like it ...

I'm a bit confused about the pregame bribes at the +2 on the ref roll. IS that the +2 from IGMEOY (sent off on 4+ with eye on me) or an additional +2 on the ref roll (sent off on 2+ with eye on me). In the first case, i'd consider the bribe a bit cheap at 10k. and what happens if my opponent fouls back?

The ingame bribe is a very good rule though and not overpowered imo.

The +2 is from the ref having his eye on you. Perhaps I shall limit it to 3 or 4 calls, or amybe just stick to the ingame bribes. If your opponent fouls back, you simply treat it as any other foul.

But what happens to the ref's eye, when the eye is on you for the bribing, and he fouls you? do you both get it?

You mean when the ref fouls me, or his eye?

Ok, you bribe the ref, the ref has his eye on you from the start of the game. If your opponent fouls you and gets caught, the ref's eye goes to your opponent, just like if you had been caught fouling, and then your opponent then gets caught fouling. The ref's eye is on the last team to catch his eye, but he only has one eye to give. If he gave both teams an eye, he would have none left...unless he had some wyrd mutation, of course.
