Jocks Vs Geordies 20/21 Sept 2014

For your reading pleasure here is the story.

So good readers like every story, this one has a start, a middle, and end.

The tale begins at Burger Bowl in July.

Like every bloodbowl event the Saturday night was filled with beer, food, and trying to take the barmaid home.

The discussion did turn to Eurobowl and the chances of Scotland hosting in 2016.

Scotland are very keen to host, and we believe they would do a great job.

The Geordies and Jocks have a long history of supporting each other, and we both launch regular raids to each other's events.

So an idea was born to have a Eurobowl warm up between Scotland, and a Geordie All Start Team.

And being very drunk at the time it seemed like a good idea.

While I was cracking on to the Barmaid, Bren saw a chance and asked me to host it, knowing I was not paying any attention and agreed, and went back to failing to impress the barmaid with my charms.

So it was born.

After a quick chat the following day we agreed to use the Eurobowl 2014 rule set. We would have a 5 game fixed draw schedule, just so we could start later on the Saturday and finish earlier on the Sunday for people traveling.

Both groups parted company and set about selecting their six team members.

For the Jocks it was members of the 2014 Eurobowl or Europen players.

The Geordies, since we do not have a Eurobowl team....yet, went for a potential World Cup Team.

So here's the teams.

Geordies
Circusbear (Undead)
Don_Vito (Human)
Mattrobson (Amazon)
Pippy (Lizardmen)
Stick (Dwarves)
Winkle_Picka (Wood Elf)

Jocks
Garrick (Norse)
JamesEs (Human)
Lord Garlack (Undead)
Phil78 (Lizardmen)
Purdindas (Wood Elf)
Vanguard (Human)

The glittering prize, rumour is that it contains the ashes of all the 'Yes to Scottish Independence Votes'

Image

So the date was set and agreed on. The cunning Geordies picked the weekend follow the Independence vote knowing that the several of the Jocks would turn up broken, no matter the out come of the vote. :smoking:

Around 11am the quiet of Gateshead was destroyed by the arrival of the Jocks, not to play to stereotypes but the did arrive with beers in hand.

So not to be out done the Geordies started on the beers too. And the games started,

I am not going to labour on a blow by blow match report mainly because it gets a bit fuzzy.

The games were played in a friendly relaxed environment and the banter was great. The idea was it to be competitive but fun and that was achieved.

Although we did witness a new Bloodbowl world record, one game was put on a clock after taking 2h 30min for the first half.

Sadly we do not have a prize for guessing which game that was!

Most of the games ended with the players discussing the game and having friendly discussions about tactics, errors that were made, and the such like. It was done in a friendly spirit and summed up what the event was all about.

Image

Saturday evening began with a home made curry and more beers before setting out to the local pub that host Block Around The Clock and Geordiebowl (two cracking eventsm hint hint)

More beer flowed, tunes were played, and certain people embarrassing pool skills were showed off.

Because we had only been on the beer for 12 hours we decided to take the short walk into Newcastle for yet more beers.

What is normally a 15 minute walk took over 45 mins mainly due to a mortal Stick attacking Bren in the middle of main road and nearly knocking him out, and then not being happy with that he tried to mount James and ripped the crotch and butt out of his pants.

Geordies you cant take them anywhere.

Soon after arriving into Newcastle we knew that one of our number wasn't going to get in anywhere apart from the most dodgy bars on the Bigg Market.

So we split into two groups.

Then the madness began.

Most of it I cant put on a public forum. What can be said is the one man was lost, and a search party was out till 4 am looking for him.

The damage for the night was:-

One I-phone, lost somewhere
One pair of pants
and a bump to pippys head

So not that bad we have seen worse.

Always it was a great weekend, not just for the games but for spending time with a good group of mates.

We hope that this becomes an annual event, which moves between the North East and Scotland

Oh, this'll be good. It's not so much the Blood Bowl, but the Saturday night shenanigans I'm looking forward to you retelling. :D

The Treeman failing a dodge in the middle of a busy Geordietoon road was a classic, serious dent in the tarmac!

Stick 3/0/2
Circus Beer 3/0/2
Pippy 1/3/1

Surely it was more of a 'Both Down' result than a failed dodge?

Absolutely was, good call!

Incidentally does anybody know how the arse was ripped out of JamesEs's trousers on Saturday night?

Oof. Slightly shaming. Bring on Eurobowl!

Dunno about that Sann; the result is probably a little flattering. 90% of matches were very close affairs. I think something like three quarters were either a draw or won by a single TD.

Just like to say as well, that I’d strongly recommend this kind of tourney ( James’ trouser issue aside ;-) ) to settle local grudges whether between nations or leagues or whatever. Hell of a lot of fun. If I’m not mistaken this sort of thing is not far from the Belgium vs. Netherlands contest that led to Eurobowl’s birth. BTW this is a non-NAF ranked effectively invitational tourney of course.

It was brilliant fun, many thanks to the Geordie's for organising and hosting.

We need to start working out how we repay the compliment next year.

The Geordies had far more strength in depth than we did, their poorest individual score was 2.5 out of 5!

If Eurobowl which is also an invitational tournament (you have to be invited into your country's team) is NAF ranked then why should a regional team tournament like this not be NAF ranked? Only asking because of all those lovely ranking points I would get
