Team Tournament

Post by neverdodge »

Anyone ever thought a tournament by team (say 2-3 players) could be nice ? Juste wondering.

The team could have any combinaison of race (or 3 diff race don t know) and coach nationality.

The system would be like the Eurobowl.

That would be like in soccer you got national team, and you got club playing with foreign players.

We did this at the Bubble. you could join one team and then the results of all the players would be divided by the number of players to give an average per team.

Needles to say the Germans won.

Overall a good idea to let local leagues battle each other. 2 or 3 member teams should be the best size.

What you'd want to do is break the races up into different groups (say 3-4 groups) then force each team to take a mix from each group. Facing off against a team composed entirely of the "best" tournament races wouldn't be dull - and making teams take a stunty team would be fun.

The other problem with just average score is that it penalises larger teams - so you either need to ensure all teams are the same size or that only the best X count or something.

I thought of a doubles competition, so that's teams of sorts. With that the added twist you could add if you felt particularly bored is to have the coaches swap games at half-time. The hand-over should be pretty simple, and would make for some interesting variety and the need to be able to coach two races.
Although someone's probably already done that.

I would love to see this idea expanded, tested and used at tourneys.

but that gives them a head start .. imagine a team where half of the players (5) winns all their matches and the other half loses ..

if all other teams have 5 players the big team would win easily as they allways have five players who win as opposed to the general score where they play average at best ..

Nice mate ! That s a nice idea. But still my first thought was to really do a team tournament, with the team getting point in a swiss system (with each team playing another tem with the same number of points every turn).

Just like if the team is one player (not sure if that s clear).

Yes that is how I understood it. That is also a nice idea. Depends a little bit on how big the teams would be. 4 or 5 should be big enough I think.

The problem is that if you allow teams of different sizes how do you calculate a team score? Its not a straight forward issue. If you average the scores then small elite teams do well. If you take the best X then big teams do well.

IIRC the WPS Club Challenge had a system where each team captain chose X players before each round and only their scores counted.

I like the idea of random teams. Just put even numbers of people into each team and have a laugh. :D
