PBeM Tool 2.4e Beta

However you play online - Java, Vassal, Email, Cyanide etc - talk about it here.
This is also the place for discussing the various tools for managing leagues, teams and so on.

PBeM Tool 2.4e Beta

Post by GalakStarscraper »

Okay 2.4e Beta will be finished soon.

Couple things are slowing me down with the Rules Review. Namely Piling On is tricky to get into the program correctly.

Things left to finish programming:
Team Playbooks done
Lustrian Winnings change request (2 different projects) done
Lustrian 4 new stadiums done
LOS switch for the REBBL league to have a BB 7s league done
Piling On new rules done
Wild Animal new version with an ini option for destunning to not need a roll done
New rules for Hypnotic Gaze done
Foul Ejection on 6 only not working bug to fix done
Level 5 apothecary not greying out when used and failing done
Chaos Dwarf Firethrower automation postponed to version 2.4f
Ball and Chain rolling before you've had a turn bug done
GFI before PickUp and Dodge done

The good news on this is that my company to keep folks from quitting announced paid vacation from everyone from December 25th to January 4th so I should be able to get the tool finished if I don't have the above done by then. Hopefully the program should all the updates in it by Jan 4th at the latest.

Including... holding my breath ... getting the MBBL and the MBBL2 automated.

That's pretty cool, Galak, thanx for the effort!! (and congrats for the well deserved vacations!)

What about the tool offering certain statistics? I'd love to see it into the pbembb tool.
Anything yet about the new races and upgrades to the BBteamCreator?

Two comments on statistics.

Version 2.4e will have show luck stats at the end of the game for 3+ rolls on D6s, knockdowns out of total blocks, AV breaks out of total knockdowns, and KO+ results from injury rolls. (This programming is already finished)

Other stats like passing and fouling will need to wait for later versions.

And finalizing the BBteamcreator is WAY up on the list. I want to release both 2.4e and the finished BBteamcreator at the same time.

Finished 2 of the things on that list above last night ... getting closer.

tom, you do an aweful lot of hard coding to keep the various leagues happy and we should all be a lot more thankful than we probably are...

The reason I help program the tool is that Ronald got flooded by me asking for "specials" for the MBBL2. Since this is the reason I'm his partner on the project ... makes it difficult to turn down the folks asking of me what I asked of him.

Plus when folks ask why PBeM vs JavaBowl or NetBowl or TowBowl ... I always point to the pbleague.ini file and say ... because you can play pretty much whatever house rules you want and its fully automated.

I have a fear that the Luck report at the end of the game may not be a "good thing" but it will be interesting.

Hey Phil ... one point of curiousity ... now that I joined the Lustrian league to get my Fling fix. You had me program in the Landing skill to the tool as an agility skill for your league. Did I miss where you added that skill as an option for the league, or did you remove that rule from the league?

i had you put that in? gee... i'd forgotten... well, all things considered, i'm not against it (while i'm all for the notion of stunty teams being just plain bad in theory, for someone to stick out a season or more with them is just plain masochistic... so i'm rarely averse to helping them at least to mediocrity)... we'll add that to the league rules review in the next couple of months....

One of your very first requests from a long time ago when you were thinking about starting the LPL was for this skill to be automated:

Landing (AG skill): A player with this skill may add +1 to any attempt to land after being thrown with a throw teammate pass.

A definite skill choice for an AG 4 Fling. Probably a good 3rd choice for a Fling going the Sure Hands, Catch route.

hmmm... should probably have been a reroll rather than a +1 to make it more in line with the rest of the major skill position skills, don't you think?

Reroll VERY VERY good ... +1 not as good. If you make it a reroll, I think you'll find folks screaming about the power of Stunties a little tooooo much in the Lustrian. I'd recommend just leave it at +1 for now. If you don't see anyone taking the skill at all or the Stunties are skill getting blown away. You can up it to a reroll skill and I'll program it in.

Also ... you were the one that asked for the +1 mod for the skill ... no takebacks ...

hey, i don't do the math, i just go on feeling... if you say the +1 is less problematic, i'll take yer word for it...

Don't know if you know this or not but it's a little niggle I have with it.

When you field a ball and chain player for a kick off and your opponent clicks his turn marker for the first turn it rolls the exhaustion roll.

It really sucked that in my last match it rolled a successful exhaustion roll when I didn't need it and the failed the first real one. (and I know that doesn't mean I would have had a successful roll but it just pissed me off.)
