Javabowl Ball and Chain bug

However you play online - Java, Vassal, Email, Cyanide etc - talk about it here.
This is also the place for discussing the various tools for managing leagues, teams and so on.

Javabowl Ball and Chain bug

Post by Ivesy_boy »

At the moment if a fanatic blocks another fanatic, both fall down in accordance to the rules. However if either has block, he remains standing. I assume this is because the both players down block dice result is used. This is not normally a problem, but in FUMBBL where the goblin cheaters and snotlings can hire ball and chain players who earn SPP's, ball and chain players with block become weapons for use against opponents' ball and chain players.

I see this as a league problem really. I'd hate to restrict something like this when it isn't really legal under the LRB rules to even have block on a ball and chain player. But maybe there are leagues out there that want to house rules that ball and chain players can have block and it should work like this. In this case I think FUMBBL should take responsibility and not allow a ball and chain player to select block if they don't want it to work like this.

If/When the experimental rules become official for secret weapons it will be able to have Ball and Chain players with Block. The secret weapon rules say to ignore the skills ... ie Block while the player holds the weapon.

Not the case ... Ball and Chain and Deathroller are special.

The experimental secret weapon rules mean that Block/Dodge Chainsaw players are very good. Sure Feet on Pogo Stick players. Pro on Blunderbuss. Pro, Hail Mary Pass, Pass, Accurate for Bombs.. All of these are good combos with the new rules.

I was thinking that giving the player block would still be valid under the exp secret weapon rules, but I was only thinking about the block skill being used against other ball and chain players. I see the problem now when thinking about all the normal ball and chain blocks vs normal players. In that case you would want block to work against normal players but not against other ball and chain players.

Sorry Grumble ... my comment above only referred to the Ball and Chain not the other weapons.

From the 2003 Annual:

Ball and Chain, 10k, 8+ Penalty, Effect: Player MA=4 & ignore all skills, traits, and racial characteristics

See right in the experimental rules it says you would ignore Block if the Goblin had it.

Compare that to a Chainsaw in the rules:
Chainsaw, 30k, 8+ Penalty, Effect: None

This means that a player with a Chainsaw still has his Block and Dodge skills when he gets blocked.

The lose of Block for the Ball and Chain player is part of the new experimental rules.
