JBB: hotkey switch between "Icons" and "Posit

However you play online - Java, Vassal, Email, Cyanide etc - talk about it here.
This is also the place for discussing the various tools for managing leagues, teams and so on.

JBB: hotkey switch between "Icons" and "Posit

Post by Toby »

A hotkey to change all Icons to Positon
("Thrower.Icon.GIF" to "T", in Game.)
Is there such a hotkey ?

not, the option "Nick's Icons". A Hotkey to change display in Game, like "N" for "Numbers". Ski, If not, add "P" for "Positions" Positions.INI should Look Like:

[AMAZON]
THROWER=T
CATCHER=C
BLITZER=Z
LINEWOMAN=L

[CHAOS]
WARRIOR=B
BEASTMAN=L

[CHAOS DWARF]
BLOCKER=B
HOBGOBLIN=L
BULL CENTAUR=Z

[DARK ELF]
THROWER=T
BLITZER=Z
WITCH ELF=B
LINEMAN=L

[DWARF]
BLITZER=Z
RUNNER=R
TROLL SLAYER=B
LONG BEARD=L

You get the Idea. (Z is the Hotkey for a BLITZ Action, B for BLOCK Action usw.) The "P" command would allow Players (noobs) to go like "Whats my Blitzer on this team? ->P ah, the Bull Centaurs are the Blizers".

That doesn't always work though, cause if you look at skaven and were asked what the blitzers were, I am sure most would say storm vermin. Though on my team i nearly always blitz with my gutter runners.

It is HIGHLY NEEDED ! (for newbie players)

Normal View = Icons (pretty little things! ;) )
Advanced Players View = Numbers (wheres my dirty player? :-? )
Newbies = Positions (what is this one good for? :roll: )

And trust me that would be a hell of a improvement for the newbie section!
Ski, make the Views availible via Mouse, as buttons. Hot keys are to "hidden". Ideally everythin is availiable both ways.

I disagree i think newbies should learn the names of the players and calling centaurs blizters might just cause more confusion to them cause the chaos dwarfs don't have blitzers on the roster.

Advanced coaches shouldn't need the player numbers, its not exaxtly hard to keep track of where your players are and whats wrong with just putting the mouse over the player and looking at his skill list, number and everything else?

Oh and i hate playing with the icons anyway :p

you can already switch between numbers and icons (permanent or tremporary). Same thing with positions would be really good. Positions.INI can be modified by everyones liking.

Hmm...I'll put that on a todo list. You'd have to editor the positions.ini file however you want though. I'd just make "p" a toggle button like "n".

So Grum: Have you tried the images you can use with the circle icons for background? Just curious if anyone uses/ has tried using them.

Ahh, you are missing out. You can have all kinds of neat backgrounds to the circles. Like these for example:

And you can do it per race type in the positions.ini.

though one problem seems to have come up with 5.7d, sometimes players disappear but it might be a problem with the proxy, its not happened to me personally though

Yes this is a problem with the proxy. It is a problem with the proxy losing the connection with messages on the pipes. In a direct connect lost messages are less likely because there is no middle man. If a direct connect loses a connection all messages sent before the disconnect still reach the other computer. With the proxy, if the proxy loses the connection, there is a high probability that messages were on their way to the proxy at the time, and thus never reach the other computer. Thus when you reconnect there are messages lost.
