Death Bowl 2003 - Tomorrow's the day

Post by CyberHare »

All right everyone I've finished pounding out the details for the 2003 Death Bowl Championship. The tournament will be held on the 18th & 19th of October, 2003, in the Montreal, Quebec area. This is THE NAF sanctioned Death Bowl Championship. The winner of this tournament will be determined in a four way Death Bowl match between the top four players after four rounds of play.

Full tournament rules and further details on how to register can be found at http://www.house-rulez.com/db2003/db2003.html.

If you have ever wanted a chance to test your team in the brutal game of Death Bowl then this is your chance. Do you think you have what it takes to take to the field against three opponents at the same time? Do you think your team will survive with NO referee, NO Apothecary, and NO regeneration? Find out for yourself! This is the Death Bowl, check your soul at the door!

The 2003 Death Bowl Championship is hosted by http://www.house-rulez.com

This sounds like fun. Shame I've no chance of attending :(

On a sidenote, how will NAF ranking points be worked out for the final?

The complete set of rules for the 2003 Death Bowl Championship can be found at http://www.house-rulez.com/db2003/db2003.htm. I've pasted the section below about how the NAF ranking for the final round will be handled.
The first four preliminary rounds of the Death Bowl 2003 will be played as standard 1 on 1 games and will be counted towards a coaches NAF rating as per the usual NAF rules. The final round of Death Bowl matches will effect your NAF rating in the following manner. In each group of four, the winner and 3rd place player will count as having played a standard game and the 2nd and 4th place players will count as having played a standard game. Determine how each player ranks by touchdowns scored, casualties caused, and finally if the previous two criteria do not determine a ranking, by overall tournament points for the first four rounds of play.

Anthony has graciously agreed to be the head painting judge for the Death Bowl. Many thanks to Anthony for assuming the position, erm well, you get the idea :D

For anyone who is interested I have uploaded progress photo's for the Death Bowl legacy trophy to the Death Bowl website. You can see them at http://www.house-rulez.com/db2003/db2003trophy.html.

Da Maggot Scum regretfully inform all they will not be attending due to overseas requirements... :(

So you'll all have to earn your casualties, rather than bloat them playing me... :smoking:

I'll be there Brian, that axe will be MINE!!! HA HA HA HA HA!!!

Gotta see your deathbowl board at the Games Day tourney, time permitting, I may make one with the help of my woodworking brother. Sorry I haven't pre-registered, I usually pay at the door just in case hell freezes over and I can't attend.

Now remember you don't get to keep the axe. It's like the Chaos Cup or the Spike! trophy......or like the Stanley Cup (there we go, a reference we canadians can relate to :) It the tournaments permanent trophy. Each year the winners name wll be engraved on it. Though you do get to take cool pictures with it and the ladies helping me host the event :o

Don't worry about not pre-registering, that I know you're coming is cool. The only reason I'm actually somewhat concerned about how many people I'll get is that I need enough Death Bowl boards for everyone to play. At the moment I have enough for 20 people to play. I hope I'm going to need more. 8)

Are you making boards? What material are they made of? I've been talking with my brother, who is a furniture maker/woodworker/general artsy guy, and he's going to try to make me a deathbowl pitch and a normal pitch. Thats why I really really really want to see yours at Games Day in Toronto. If all goes well, he may be willing to make more than one!

And yes, I know I won't get to keep the axe. But I still want to be the one who holds it high and poses with the ladies...

Oh, and by the way... Your diagram of the death bowl board on your rules page seems to be one square narrow. Isn't a pitch supposed to be 15 squares wide?

I have 4 boards made of pink styrofoam and 1 board that I carved out of wood. The wood board will be the one that the championship round is played on. It would have cost me too much to much make the others out of wood :( Well ok my wife said it would cost too. :) I havn't made any dugouts for any of the boards yet though but I figured at worst we'll just use the regular ones.

The board is only 14 squares wide on each axis because you can't center one board on another if they are 15 squares across. It is still 26 squares long though.

Another question for you regarding deathbowl, Cyberhare...

Can you throw the ball out of bounds and back in? It is technically possible to throw the ball from your own end, into the end of the team on your right or left to a reciever, and then run towards the opposing end zone. But is it allowed? I already know you can only score on the opposite end zone, but can you pass over the black areas on your diagram?

Yeah this question came up at Ganes Day a couple of times. It seems I forgot that little point in the rules. No you cannot pass the ball over the black areas of the diagram. In other words you can not pass the ball over the out of bounds area to reach a player on the other side. Why? Because of the masses of fans that are sitting in those prime seats just waiting for someone to try that :)

I'm going to update the rules soon with that and a few other things that have come to my attention.
